Italian tennis ace Jannik Sinner is growing in stature with every tournament. The 22-year-old has won a Grand Slam title and has been consistent throughout the 2024 season. However, despite this consistency, Sinner feels that he has a lot left to do. The Italian feels that he is yet to reach 100% of his abilities as the Big Three—Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic did.
Sinner says that it is his dream to replicate what the three best players of the game did. Although the Italian superstar is touted as the next big thing in the game, he does not exactly look at himself that way. In fact, the 22-year-old said he has no such ambition of winning more Grand Slam titles than the Big Three.
Jannik Sinner is just focused on squeezing everything out of himself. Sinner wants to reach the peak of his abilities on all fronts—physical, mental, and tennis, just like the three champions of the sport did. He also acknowledged the need for a competitor who pushes him to get better.
It's how they have improved as a player fighting each other. At some point, Rafa arrived, then Roger was struggling. After he tried to find a way how to beat him, then Novak arrived. I think that's something that evolves the player and also increases the level of each of them. They have reached their 100 per cent of everything. This would be also my dream, to arrive at the point at the end of the career where I reached 100 per cent of my physical ability, my tennis (ability) and also my mental (ability).Jannik Sinner said to Wimbledon
It is worth mentioning that while Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic had each other, Sinner has got Carlos Alcaraz pushing him every day.
Jannik Sinner feeling much more confident about his fitness
While reaching the peak of his abilities is a long-term goal for Jannik Sinner, his focus stays on winning the Championships this year. Sinner has started the grass-court swing on a high as he won the title in Halle, his first on grass. Now, the 22-year-old will be looking to go a couple of steps further at Wimbledon than what he did last year.
Sinner says physically, he feels much better than he did at the start of the 2024 Roland Garros. The Italian said that while he had a few doubts about his body a few weeks back, he is absolutely confident about it this time and thus, is hoping to go the distance.
There is no secrets. I feel physically much better than in the beginning of Roland-Garros because there I arrived with some doubts. Here I have no doubts about my body. We have been working a lot in the last days. I'm not concerned about my body. I'm just happy to be here and hopefully ready to compete.Jannik Sinner said
Sinner will open his Wimbledon campaign against Yannick Hanfmann. The 22-year-old is expected to meet Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinal. The Italian was defeated by Alcaraz in the Roland Garros semifinal, so that might play on his mind.
