Jannik Sinner has named Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic as part of his tennis idols. The World No.1 is set to make a fantastic return to the court at the ATP Finals in Turin as he looks to continue with his blistering form on the court. He will now hope to follow in the footsteps of the tennis legend at the tournament.

Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic are known as the best players to have ever graced the tennis court. Known as the Big 3, they challenged each other on the court, brought the best out of each others, and competed excellently to win titles, dominating other ATP players on tour. One major thing that stood out for them was that they all won at least 20 Grand Slams.

Djokovic claimed the highest number of major titles among the Big 3 with 24, while Nadal lifted 22 Grand Slams and Federer 20. The three players have inspired the young and older generation of players in the men’s circuit because of their hunger and competitiveness to win more titles and make more records.

Sinner is currently far from reaching their mark on the tour, but he’s certainly pressing forward toward it. He has won just four Grand Slams, all of which came in the past 22 months on tour. The 24-year-old claimed his first major at the 2024 Australian Open after coming from two sets down to beat Daniil Medvedev.

He reached his second Slam final at the US Open that same year and claimed the title. This year, Sinner won the Australian Open and Wimbledon Championship. During his interview with Sky Sports Italia, the Italian star revealed that his first idol was Andreas Seppi before becoming Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic:

My first idol was Andreas Seppi. Then it became Roger Federer. Later I discovered Rafa Nadal and said, ‘As a person, he’s incredible.’ Then I discovered Nole and thought, ‘What he does is incredible.

Sinner has dominated the men’s circuit in the last two months with his arch-rival Carlos Alcaraz featuring in just two tour-level tournaments since closing the US Open in September. The World No.1 defeated Learner Tien to win the China Open before claiming his second ATP 500 title of the season at the Vienna Open after triumphing over Alexander Zverev in straight sets. On Sunday (November 2), he claimed his maiden Rolex Paris Masters, beating Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final.

Jannik Sinner reflects on his French Open final loss to Carlos Alcaraz

Jannik Sinner will never forget the French Open final in his career. The memory of the clash between him and Carlos Alcaraz will continue to be replayed as he journeys on in his career. He was just one set away from capturing the Roland Garros in June, but Alcaraz produced a masterclass comeback to defend the title.

During the aforementioned interview, he was asked about the memorable French Open loss to Alcaraz. The 24-year-old revealed that after the loss he tried to look for the positive motivation from his performance and was surprised that many people came to congratulate him despite the defeat:

You always have to look for positive motivation — in tennis and in life. I realized that many people came to me to congratulate me for that incredible match. That’s when you understand you did something truly meaningful. It was a special battle, and I keep in mind that I was one of the two players who created such a match. It will stay in tennis history for a long time.

Sinner and Alcaraz will battle out for the year-end World No.1 at the ATP Finals in Turin. The former recently reclaimed the World No.1 position, but it will only be for a while, as Alcaraz will go back to No.1 when the Live Race To Turin rankings drop.
