‘Playing Novak Djokovic will test my game’, says Jannik Sinner

World No.1, Novak Djokovic returns to action today at the ATP Masters 1000 in Monte Carlo. The former champion will play his first match against Italian sensation, Jannik Sinner.

The top seed last played at the Australian open in February and has been away since then due to injury. On the other hand, the World No.22 has been getting some impressive results under his belt.

Speaking ahead of this clash against the 18-time Major winner, Sinner said, “Obviously it’s a tough match I think from my side, because I don’t know him that well. Obviously seeing him a lot on TV, watching matches. But when you play against him in a match it’s different. I’m looking forward to that match.”

Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic have never met on the ATP Tour before and it will be interesting to see how this contest pans out. Elaborating more on the contest, the 19-year-old said, “It’s a good test for my side to see where I am, especially where I can improve. I know where I can improve, but this kind of match can give me a lot. I just try to go there with the right mentality like in every match and we will see what’s happening.”

The Italian is coming into the match with decent preparation. On the other hand, the Serb has only practiced on the surface, thanks to his residence in Monte Carlo.

While Djokovic remains the clear favourite, this match has all the ingredients to be a cracker.
