Jannik Sinner reportedly fired his fitness coach Umberto Ferrara and physiotherapist Giacomo Naldi amidst criticism from the tennis fraternity. Sinner, who tested positive for clostebol in March due to his physiotherapist, has not faced a strict punishment with only his prize money and points he gained during the Indian Wells taken away from him.

As per a report published by Corriere dello Sport, Sinner had to take the tough decision of parting ways with two members of his team ahead of the 2024 US Open. Naldi had a cut on his finger and he used a spray bought from Italy given by Ferrara which contained clostebol.

Naldi, unaware of the fact that the spray had a banned substance, massaged Sinner with his bare hands. Through the lesions on Sinner’s skin, steroids entered his body and were detected in March when Sinner was at Indian Wells. After another positive result, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) informed Sinner and his team and after an investigation by an independent tribunal, Sinner was acquitted of the charges.

This is the reason why almost everyone in the tennis fraternity has been lambasting Sinner and the ITIA. He avoided a ban when several players, who accidentally took a banned substance, had to go through months of suspension before being cleared of any wrongdoing by the ITIA.

Jannik Sinner was provisionally suspended, from 4th April to 5th April and from 17th April to 20th April as per the ITIA. He was banned after the end of the Miami Open and before the start of the Madrid Open. British tennis ace Liam Broady was heavily disappointed with the ITIA as he felt it was unfair to other tennis players going through the same doping situation but not proven innocent in a short period.

Whether Sinner was doping or not. This is not right. Plenty of players go through the same thing and have to wait months or YEARS for their innocence to be declared. Not a good look
