Dive season has landed this week as big grass court tournaments commenced in Halle and London. Over the years, grass courts have witnessed some unbelievable diving shots. Jannik Sinner added his contribution to the history books during his first-round match against Tallon Griekspoor in Halle today.

After losing the first set in a tiebreak, the new World No.1 was put in a tight spot as the second set was going neck and neck. In the sixth game, he found an opportunity to break Griekspoor to take a 4-2 lead. At 3-2 Ad-40, Sinner pulled off one of the best shots of the year as he passed his opponent with a diving forehand cross-court.

He was dazzled by his own success and took a moment to enjoy it as he smiled in disbelief, hands on his hips. The Italian ace then went on to win the match 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 by doubling down on the crucial break of serve he earned with that shot.

Watch the unbelievable shot followed by Sinner’s reaction to it in this clip that was obtained from the ATP after they posted it on their socials.

Fans react to Jannik Sinner’s insane shot at the Halle Open

Jannik Sinner produced a magical winner in his first-round match on the German greens. Tennis fans have seldom seen him take risks like that or play flamboyant tennis like Carlos Alcaraz, as he prefers to be methodical and technical with his approach.

This made the shot he hit today more special and raised his supporters’ energy. They took to the comments section of the highlight-worthy video to express their awe at what it takes to be the best.

Netizens also hailed Sinner’s speed on the slippery surface, as many pros would not have managed to get a racket on that ball.

However, some were not as amused by the shot, which could be a positive sign as exciting tennis may have become the norm.

Sinner will next play Hungarian player Fabian Marozsan. Marozsan won his first-round match against Roman Safiullin 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 to mark a match date with the World No.1.
