Jannik Sinner bagged $6 million after winning the Six Kings Slam in Riyadh. The two-time Grand Slam champion, in a recent interview, talked about whether he played the exhibition event solely for the money.

The exhibition event featured the best six players, and Sinner, after breezing past Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals, defeated Novak Djokovic in the semifinal. In the final, he upset Carlos Alcaraz to win the tournament. Rafael Nadal and Holger Rune also signed up for the event, both of whom were defeated by Alcaraz. For Sinner, the event was valuable because of the players who featured in it.

I don’t play for money. It’s very simple. Of course, it’s a nice prize and everything but you know it’s…for me, you know I went there because there were possibly the six best players in the world and then you can measure yourself with them.

Jannik Sinner told Eurosport

Sinner also liked visiting Riyadh as it was the first time he went there. He felt the matches probably would help him improve his game for the future. For Sinner, his health and family come before the money he earned at the Six Kings Slam.

And of course, you know, the money is important but not that much. I live a good life also without this money. So you know, it’s much more important the health I have and surrounding myself with great people and the family I have, than the money. It’s just an extra.

Jannik Sinner has won just once in the Paris Masters

In 2021 when he played for the first time in the tournament, he was defeated by Carlos Alcaraz. It was also their first meeting on the ATP Tour. The 23-year-old then bowed out of the tournament the next year when he lost to Marc-Andrea Huesler in the first round. He finally registered his first win in 2023 when he defeated Mackenzie McDonald but withdrew from the tournament later.

He is set to face either Ben Shelton or a qualifier in his first round. Against Shelton, Sinner is 4-1 in their head-to-head contest. They met three times this season with Sinner winning all the matches. Shelton registered his first win over the Italian in their first meeting, at the 2023 Shanghai Masters.
