World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has recently made headlines for the wrong reasons. The Italian is under scrutiny due to a doping scandal, and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is set to issue a verdict after the conclusion of next year’s Australian Open.

However, this does not diminish the achievements Sinner has made this season. He became the first player from Italy to reach the top of the ATP rankings. Despite a historic season, Sinner remains grounded and understands the effort required to maintain his form.

We did some tests to understand what kind of preparation to do, what strategies to use. There are a lot of sacrifices behind it, I’m only 23, not 27, and I’ve only had one season at the top. The goal is not only to win for three years, but to still be in the game when I’m 30. This season has been incredible, but everything can change.

Sinner’s dominance was primarily due to his exceptional performance on hard courts. The 23-year-old won eight ATP titles in 2024 and played a key role in helping Italy defend their Davis Cup title. Of the eight tournaments he won this season, seven were on hard courts.

Sinner joined the likes of Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic by winning both hard-court Grand Slams and the ATP Finals in the same season. He also added three Masters 1000 titles to his impressive 2024 record.

Jannik Sinner dazzled the tennis world in 2024, reaching the top of the ATP rankings by June. Starting the year ranked fourth, the Italian star climbed to number one after a remarkable season. Sinner joined Roger Federer in a rare group of players to win at least one set in every match during a season. Federer accomplished this feat in 2005, finishing with an 81-4 record and 11 titles. Sinner’s 2024 mirrored this success, as he never lost a match in straight sets. He fought hard even in defeat, including tough five-set battles at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe came close to this milestone in their historic seasons. Borg’s 1979 season ended just shy of the record when he retired during one match. McEnroe’s incredible 82-3 run in 1984 fell short after a few late-season losses, including a straight-sets defeat in the Davis Cup final. Sinner’s consistency and resilience put him in this elite company.

Sinner’s season was full of highs and challenges. He won nine ATP finals and clinched two Grand Slam titles, shining at the US Open. Despite setbacks in tough matches against rivals like Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev, Sinner bounced back to dominate the ATP Finals and lead Italy to Davis Cup glory. His remarkable journey marked him as the standout player of 2024.
