Jannik Sinner claimed his fifth ATP Masters 1000 title after defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final at Paris. The 24-year-old also returned to the World No. 1 in the ATP, overtaking his arch-rival Carlos Alcaraz. The Italian star has revealed that he has now switched his focus to winning the ATP Finals for the second time.
Despite not being at his best physical level at the Paris Masters, Sinner didn’t drop a set en route to his victory on Sunday (November 2). He defeated the likes of Francisco Cerundolo and Ben Shelton before facing Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals, where he dropped just one game in his 6-0, 6-1 demolition over the German star.
He faced the in-form Auger-Aliassime in the final and had to dig deep against the Canadian star. Sinner waited patiently until the ninth game to break Auger-Aliassime for the first time in the first set, before rounding off the set 6-4. Auger-Aliassime began the second set with more intensity and energy, forcing Sinner to sprint for every ball on the court.
But he failed to break the World No.1 in the second set. The set was forced to a tiebreak and that was when Sinner upped his game, winning seven of the eleven points. The 24-year-old claimed the win 6-4, 7-6(4) in an hour and fifty-two minutes, extending his indoor winning streak to 26 matches.
During his interview with Sky Sports, he was asked how he feels about being able to win back-to-back titles before the ATP Finals in Turin. Sinner revealed that despite being a tough match, he pushed himself to earn the crucial victory and hopes to be fully ready for the season-ending tournament:
Today was a tough match. I had some chances in the second set, but he served huge there, and I have to accept that. You try and push yourself to the limit, and the tiebreaks I played very solid, making barely any mistakes, and going back to number one and winning here means a lot to me and my team. Of course, now, the next goal is to be as ready as possible for Turin, but I also want to enjoy this because it’s been an amazing tournament.
Sinner is currently World No.1 in the ATP rankings, but that will be just for a while on tour as he will return to No.2 when the Live Race To Turin rankings drop. That will then see Alcaraz return to the World No.1. Should Alcaraz win two matches at the ATP Finals in Turin, he will finish the year as World No.1.
Jannik Sinner banks on crowd support to win the ATP Finals in Turin
Jannik Sinner has reached the final of the last two editions of the ATP Finals. In 2023, he got to the final after winning all his robin-round matches but fell to Novak Djokovic in straight sets in the championship match. Last year, he claimed his maiden ATP Finals title after defeating American star Taylor Fritz.

This season, he will be hoping to win the title for the second consecutive year at the front of his home crowd in Turin. During the aforementioned interview, he noted that he aims to finish the season in the best possible way at the season-ending event:
Now let’s see what is coming in Turin. I am looking forward to it, playing in front of my own crowd, and I’m trying to finish the season in the best possible way but at the same time, no matter what happens there, it has been an amazing season.
Sinner has now won five titles this season, including two Grand Slams, but that is three fewer compared to the 2024 season. However, the Italian can blame his three-month suspension for doping as the reason for not reaching last season’s heights. Also, his four final losses against Carlos Alcaraz on tour.
