Jannik Sinner is in Cincinnati to bid for his first title since the Paris Olympic withdrawal. He played at the Canadian Open but lost to eventual finalist Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals. Ahead of his fourth-round match at the Cincinnati Open, the World No.1 talked about his mentality before winning the Australian Open.

Sinner defeated Alex Michelsen 6-4, 7-5 in his opening match in Cincinnati and is set to lock horns with Jordan Thompson for the first time in his career. After his first win, Sinner said that though he had been battling fitness issues last month, he wants to be positive about his current performance and keep on working. He referenced his campaign in Melbourne where lifting the Australian Open made him confident about his ability to win Grand Slam trophies.

I think my season is going very well. In any case, We can continue to build on that. We all have doubts. Sometimes, before winning in Australia, I wondered if I was capable of winning a Grand Slam. And then you win it. From that moment on, you convince yourself that you can do it, but without stopping working.
Jannik Sinner said at a press conference

Sinner clashed with Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final at the Australian Open and battled it out in five sets to win his first major title. The Italian then went on to claim three more titles, at the ATP Rotterdam, Miami Open, and Halle Open. In the previous two Grand Slam events, Sinner lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the French Open semifinals and to Medvedev in the Wimbledon quarterfinals.

For me, this is a place where I used to struggle a lot in the past years, so let's see what I can do this time. I'm trying to stay in a positive mindset and positive moment, and I think that today also brought me the win.
Jannik Sinner said after his first-round match

If Sinner beats Jordan Thompson, then he will reach his first quarterfinals in Cincinnati and will also improve his win-loss record to 26-2 on hard courts this season.
