The 23-year-old, following a Davis Cup win over Djokovic last year, recorded a 2-0 win in 2024, in Melbourne and Shanghai Masters final. In an interview, Sinner mentioned Cristiano Ronaldo while speaking about what losing to Djokovic taught him.

I think you either win or learn. For my part, losing often against Novak Djokovic has taught me a lot. It’s good for your health, it wakes you up. In football, you can play against Ronaldo and realize that you have to prepare better next time. But when will it be the next time? In tennis, you have more opportunities to make up for it.

In Shanghai, Djokovic played his second final on the ATP Tour, following the Wimbledon. The match against Sinner was also his last match of the season as an injury forced him to withdraw from the ATP Finals which the youngster won for the first time.

There was a doping scandal that ruined his mental peace. Then he ‘suffered’ during the US Open because his aunt Meggi Rauchegge fell ill.

When you have a personal problem, it’s not easy to play. Knowing that my aunt Margith, who did so much for me as a child, was dying, made me suffer and certainly affected me.

Jannik Sinner said during an interview with Esquire

Aunt Rauchegge died at the age of 56 in September after Sinner won the US Open. He also paid an emotional tribute to her following his win.
