Top seed Jannik Sinner stated that he would not have reached the Wimbledon final if he still carried the pain of his heartbreaking loss to Carlos Alcaraz in the French Open final. He believes Sunday’s match will be different from their previous encounters. Sinner had three match points at Roland Garros before Alcaraz made an incredible comeback to defend his title, leaving the Italian disappointed after the nearly five-and-a-half-hour battle.
Despite the emotional toll of that loss, Sinner has moved past it and is now in his first Wimbledon final. The Italian is eager to take on Alcaraz again, seeking revenge for the Roland Garros defeat. He has used the experience to fuel his determination to perform at his best on the grass courts. Sinner said in his Wimbledon post-match press conference:
I think if it were a lot in my head, I would not be in this situation to play a final again. I’m very happy to once again share the court with Carlos. It’s gonna be difficult. I know that. But I’m looking forward to it. I try to always put myself in these kind of situations that I really love. Sundays at every tournament are very special. But this is a question I can’t answer…It’s a different match. I’m looking forward to it.
Sinner, who has lost his last five matches to Alcaraz and trails 4-8 in their head-to-head record, acknowledged that Alcaraz is the favorite going into their final at the All England Club. However, the Italian is ready to give his best effort and turn his fortunes around against the Spaniard.

With a strong mindset and renewed focus, Sinner is determined to leave the past behind and embrace the opportunity to challenge Alcaraz for the Wimbledon title. This final marks a new chapter in their rivalry, one that promises to deliver another exciting contest between the two talented players.
Carlos Alcaraz emulates Pete Sampras at Wimbledon
Carlos Alcaraz has become the sixth man in the Open Era to win 20 consecutive Wimbledon matches after defeating Taylor Fritz to reach his third final at SW19. In sweltering conditions at the All England Club, the world No. 2 and second seed triumphed 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6(6), keeping his title defense alive. Alcaraz’s strong performance saw him power through the match, although he experienced a mental lapse in the second set.

After a strong start, Alcaraz appeared to falter when a sloppy service game allowed Fritz to take the second set. However, Alcaraz quickly regained focus and dominated the third set. He then sealed the victory in four sets, saving two set points in a tense fourth-set tiebreak to clinch the match.
With the win, Alcaraz extended his remarkable 24-match winning streak in 2025, having won his last three tournaments and remaining undefeated since the Barcelona Open final in April. His Wimbledon streak now stands at 20 matches, as he has not lost at the tournament since 2022.
Having won the title in 2023 and 2024, Alcaraz’s run to his third straight Wimbledon final places him among tennis’ elite. He joins the ranks of players like Rafael Nadal, Pete Sampras, Novak Djokovic, and Roger Federer, who have achieved impressive match win streaks at Wimbledon. Alcaraz will aim to extend his streak to 21 matches when he faces Jannik Sinner in Sunday’s final.
Taylor Fritz looks back on his Wimbledon final defeat to Carlos Alcaraz
Taylor Fritz became the latest player to fall to Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon, as the Spaniard extended his winning streak at the grass-court major to 20 matches. After his four-set loss, Fritz shared his thoughts on Alcaraz’s game, particularly noting the impact of the Spaniard’s serve.
Alcaraz’s impressive performance helped him improve his record at Wimbledon to 24-2 and maintain a perfect 3-0 record against Fritz in their Lexus ATP Head2Head series. Fritz said in his post-match press conference:
Like I said, I’ve watched Carlos plenty. For me, I feel like that’s the best I’ve seen him serve. I’m not going to get a look to break him back. First set, done. Second set, did exactly what I wanted to do. Fourth set, did exactly what I wanted to do… I just need to avoid playing the times where the level dips a bit and then he can grab a break and just get ahead of me.

Fritz, who now ranks No. 4 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings, has had a successful grass-court season. He went 13-2 during the grass swing and claimed ATP 250 titles in Stuttgart and Eastbourne. Only Novak Djokovic, with eight grass-court titles, has more grass-court crowns than Fritz, who has won five, among active players.
Looking ahead, Fritz is eager to take the positives from his grass-court success as he prepares for the North American hard-court season. With his recent form, Fritz is optimistic about continuing his progress and challenging the top players in the upcoming months.
