Jannik Sinner enjoyed a stunning breakthrough this season after claiming two Grand Slam titles and finishing as World No.1 in the ATP rankings. Despite the Italian’s consistent display on the court, he has revealed his biggest regret of the 2024 season.

The 23-year-old began the season brilliantly and then overtook Novak Djokovic to become the World No.1 in June. However, a few days after winning the Cincinnati Open, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced his failed drug test back in March. That led to several controversies around the impartial treatment of the case different from several players caught in the same situation.

The doping case is set to rumble into 2025 after the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) appealed against the ITIA decision and are demanding a two or three ban on Sinner. Notwithstanding, that’s not Sinner’s biggest regret this season. He revealed during a recent interview that it was his loss to Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Wimbledon.

If I look back, Wimbledon is the tournament where I left the most regrets. I had played very well until the match with Medvedev… It went like this, our sport is unpredictable. For next year we’ll see: no one knows the future. .

However, during the same interview, he revealed how F1 legend Michael Schumacher‘s tragic skiing accident taught him never to take anything for granted. The Ferrari star Schumacher suffered severe brain damage in December 2013 while skiing at the Maribel resort in the French Alps. Sinner, who loved skiing as a youth, admitted that Schumacher’s accident changed his life.

Even as a child, I always followed F1, but I had never been to a live race. The first memory is of Schumacher. When he had his skiing accident, it was a huge blow for me. That episode made me realize that life can change in a second. Never take anything for granted; you have to live one day at a time and enjoy it with a purpose.
