Jannik Sinner has revealed his priorities for 2024 after a career-defining season. The Italian recently won the US Open title, defeating Taylor Fritz in straight sets.
Speaking at a pre-tournament press conference, Sinner said that he is targeting the Year-End World No. 1 ranking. His US Open triumph created a significant gap between himself and players like Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz.
Following the early exits of Novak Djokovic and Alcaraz, Sinner was almost certain to finish the season as World No. 1 if he won the US Open title. After his Grand Slam victory, the gap between him and Zverev (ranked No. 2) is 2,985 points.
Sinner’s success in 2024 has been largely due to his consistency, having reached at least the quarterfinals in every tournament he has played. His withdrawal from the Paris Olympics helped ease his scheduling issues, unlike Alcaraz and Djokovic, who competed for Olympic gold before traveling to the U.S. underprepared.
Jannik Sinner’s schedule for the remaining 2024 season
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has a demanding schedule for the remainder of the season. Although there has been ongoing debate about congested scheduling on the ATP tour, the Italian will be hoping to maximize his points and secure the Year-End World No. 1 ranking.
Sinner will compete at the China Open, where he is the defending champion. Following that, he will travel to Vienna. These are the only two titles he is defending for the rest of the season.
However, Sinner doesn’t have many points to defend at the Shanghai Masters and the BNP Paribas Masters. At the Shanghai Masters, the right-hander will face a high-profile draw alongside Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.
Sinner’s major points to defend, aside from Vienna and the China Open, will come at the World Tour Finals, where he finished runner-up to Djokovic last year. He will also be heavily involved in Davis Cup duty for Italy as they bid to defend the continental tournament.
