Jannik Sinner has revealed his major goals for the remainder of the 2025 season after arriving in Beijing for the China Open. The Italian star is set to compete in the tournament for just the third time in his career. It will be his first event since falling to Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the US Open.

Sinner has had a mixture of glory and pain this season. He began the year by winning the Australian Open after beating Alexander Zverev in straight sets. But was then suspended for three months for testing positive for clostebol in March 2024. He had to miss four Masters events during his absence, but he did well to return to the court stronger.

However, despite his strong display on the court, he has had to struggle against Carlos Alcaraz. The 24-year-old reached his first final at the Italian Open following his three-month suspension, but lost to Alcaraz in straight sets. He reached the final of the French Open weeks later but lost to the Spaniard in five sets.

He got his revenge at the Wimbledon Championships final, a month later, beating his arch-rival in four sets. But when they met on two occasions during the North American hard-court swing, Sinner fell to Alcaraz. He currently holds an underwhelming 5-10 head-to-head record and has just won one of their last seven meetings.

He arrived for the China Open on Saturday (September 20) as he hopes to continue his excellent 9-1 win-loss record at the tournament. However, before arriving at the tournament, he had an interview with Sky Sports Italia, where he revealed his goals for the year. He admitted that his target is to win the ATP Finals in Turin:

Now I’m leaving for Beijing, and there are still many important tournaments. Physically, I feel good; after the US Open, I was completely at peace. I’m ready to get back on track and make some changes to further improve as a player. The goal is Turin, to play well, and then we’ll see how things go. I’m happy to be back on the tennis court, because that’s where I feel alive.

Sinner is currently ranked World No.2 in the ATP rankings after Alcaraz leapfrogged him following his success at the US Open. The Italian spent 65 consecutive weeks at the top of the rankings. He will now hope to get back to the top during the Asian swing, where he will defend the Shanghai Masters.

Carlos Alcaraz reflects on his win against Jannik Sinner at the French Open final

Jannik Sinner will never forget the French Open final loss against Carlos Alcaraz in June. The former World No.1 had led the tie after winning the first two sets, but allowed Alcaraz to claim the third set. But he had an opportunity to end the match in the fourth set, however, he failed to take his chances.

Alcaraz rallied back into the match, to win the tie in five sets. At the Laver Cup, Alcaraz was asked about the victory and revealed that he believed he was going to come back and win the match despite being down:

For me, I remember obviously the feeling that I had in that match that I was playing great until that match points down. I felt like it was about the tennis, that it is that score. I believed all the time that I was able to come back, that I was able to win that match, and I think that that’s the most important thing from my perspective.

Alcaraz is currently competing at the Laver Cup with Team Europe. After the tournament, he’s expected to take a quick trip to Beijing, where he will defend his China Open title. He won the tournament last year after beating Sinner in a thrilling three-set final.
