Novak Djokovic had been the top-ranked ATP player for quite a while and recently was replaced by Jannik Sinner after an unfortunate end to his French Open run. The 37-year-old was struggling all year and just when he started to find some form, suffered a major injury in his knee, forcing him to withdraw.

With that, Sinner automatically replaced Djokovic to become the next ATP No.1. However, the Italian could not win the French Open as he fell to Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals. In a recent interview, Sinner recalled his respect for Novak Djokovic and explained how the tour will be affected in his void.

Djokovic? I hope he can come back as soon as possible and somehow manage to be on the court at Wimbledon. When he withdrew from Roland‐Garros, I was really sorry. He is an important person in our sport, we feel the absence of a player of this caliber, his absence weighs heavily.

Sinner was giving his post-match interview when he got to know that Djokovic had withdrawn due to an injury which made him World No.1. In the interview itself, Sinner had wished Djokovic a speedy recovery before celebrating his career-best ranking.

With this, he also became the first Italian to achieve this feat since 1973 and even received a special video montage from the players as a celebration. Tennis legends like Roger Federer, John McEnroe, Andy Murray, and others had kind words for Sinner on the remarkable achievement.

Moreover, even the ATP gifted him with a brand-new trophy. A shiny white trophy that had a globe on top. Sinner was presented that in Monte Carlo, from where he will soon depart for the UK and train for the upcoming grass season.
