Jannik Sinner ended his amazing 2024 season in the best way. The world No. 1 helped Italy win the Davis Cup again. Italy had won the trophy last year, ending a 47-year drought. Now, they defended their title by beating the Netherlands in the final. As a result of this accomplishment, Sinner has become the first player in history to win multiple Grand Slams, the ATP Finals, and the Davis Cup in the same season.
Sinner defeated Tallon Griekspoor to secure Italy’s victory. He finished the season with an incredible 73-6 win-loss record. Remarkably, Sinner never lost a match in straight sets all year. He also matched Roger Federer’s 2005 record as the only players in history to achieve this.
In the final match of the Davis Cup, Sinner beat Griekspoor 7-6(2), 6-2. It was his 73rd win of the season. He needed four match points to close the game but got the job done for his team. The victory ended his season on a high note.
The 23-year-old hasn’t lost a match since October. His last defeat was to Carlos Alcaraz in the China Open final. Even then, it was a close three-set match. Sinner’s dominance in 2024 has been extraordinary.
Jannik Sinner’s dominance comes full circle
The Davis Cup win was the perfect ending to Jannik Sinner’s incredible year. In 2024, he won his first two Grand Slam titles and became world No. 1 for the first time. He also claimed his first ATP Finals trophy and five other titles.

Sinner was consistent all year, reaching at least the quarterfinals in every tournament he played. In Malaga, he helped Italy defend their Davis Cup title. Sinner won all his matches, including three singles and a key doubles match with Matteo Berrettini.
The Davis Cup had been a big moment for Sinner in 2023 as well. Back then, he saved match points against Novak Djokovic in the semifinals and later beat the Serb in both singles and doubles. Italy went on to defeat Australia in the final, and Sinner has been unstoppable since.
This year, Berrettini played an important role in Italy’s success. Last year, an injury kept him from competing, though he supported his team from the sidelines. In 2024, he returned to action, winning a doubles match with Sinner and both of his singles matches.
