Italian tennis ace Jannik Sinner is finding new ways to awe tennis fans. While he recently climbed to the top of the ATP rankings, dethroning Novak Djokovic, Sinner pulled off a ‘shot of the year’ at the Halle Open. Playing in the first round of the ATP 500 tournament, against Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor, Sinner pulled off an incredible dive.

After losing the first set in a thrilling tiebreak, Sinner pulled his socks and challenged his opponent with his masterful gameplay. Then came the moment that left everyone stunned. In the sixth game of the second set, Sinner gave himself a chance as he pulled off an incredible diving shot.

The Italian made a full-length dive to his right and hit the shot with his right hand to break Griekspoor. This gave Sinner a much-needed lead. The 22-year-old then went on to win the set and eventually the match in three sets. While he received heaps of praise for his unbelievable shot, Sinner cannot fathom what he did.

In the second set, I was 0–40 on serve, from there I tried to regain confidence and I think I showed good tennis. The point that led to the break. I was running to my left, I saw the tape deviate and I don't even know how but I managed it, nice dive. This point finally gave me the confidence I needed.

Nothing changes for Jannik Sinner despite being World No. 1

Having reached the top of the ATP rankings recently, Jannik Sinner is not thinking too much about it and continuing with his old process. The 22-year-old has said that while being the World No. 1 is an incredible achievement, nothing changes for him as he continues to look for ways to improve.

Sinner also remembered the first time he played at the Halle Open, as a qualifier. The Italian said that it feels good for him to be back in the tournament.

First match as number one? It’s definitely a big achievement but I’m always thinking about how to improve. This tournament believed in me, I remember playing the qualifiers here five years ago when I was a kid. I'm happy to be back on the field, to feel good and to no longer feel pain.

The Italian will next face Fabian Marozsan in the second round. Sinner has been in stellar form this season and will be hoping to make the most of this tournament in Halle. The newly-crowned World No. 1 will look to get acclimatized to the grass courts as quickly as possible.
