Sinner defeated Australian wild card Tristan Schoolkate 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3 on Rod Laver Arena. Schoolkate, ranked No. 173, played an impressive opening set and raised hopes of a major upset. However, he couldn’t maintain his high level as Sinner took control of the match.

From 2-3 in the second set, Sinner dominated by winning 16 of the next 21 games. He found his rhythm and used his return game to turn the match around. The World No. 1 earned his first break point late in the second set and went on to break Schoolkate five times in total.
