Jannik Sinner caught the eye of Rafael Nadal when the former played against Nadal at the French Open 2020. Although Sinner lost that match to Nadal in straight sets, 6-7 4-6 1-6, the ‘king of clay’ invited Sinner to participate in a practice camp with him ahead of the Australian Open. 

Sinner has since then won two ATP Titles, in Sofia and Adelaide, and also reached the Finals of an ATP 1000 event, the Miami Open. The Italian who is still only nineteen has a World ranking of No.18 right now.

Jannik Sinner started the clay court swing of the year with a loss against Novak Djokovic. The Italian teenager lost to Djokovic, 4-6 2-6, in the round of thirty two match at the Monte Carlo Masters. Since then he has reached the Semi-finals of  the Barcelona Open and been ousted in the round of thirty two of the Madrid Open by Alexei Popyrin.

At the Rome masters, he has beaten Ugo Humbert of France 6-2 6-2 in the round of sixty-four encounter. In the round of thirty two he will face the legend on clay Rafael Nadal. Ahead of his clash against the World No.2, Sinner said that now he had a game where he had more weapons to beat the top players like Rafael Nadal, Federer, Djokovic etc. Sinner, who is from Italy, joked that he would celebrate at the Colosseum if he won at Rome

Jannik Sinner said, “Now I have more weapons to beat Federer, Nadal, Djokovic. They put you under pressure all the time, I saw it vs Rafa at the French Open and vs Nole in Monte Carlo. If I win the title, I will celebrate at the Colosseum!”
