Jannik Sinner will be chasing his sixth title of the season at Wimbledon, where he will also be competing as the defending champion.

The grass swing is underway across cities in Europe, but Jannik Sinner won’t be competing in any warm-up tournaments before Wimbledon. He was last seen in action at the French Open, where his run ended in a disastrous fashion as he lost to Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the second round after being hit by severe cramps.
This ended his goal of completing the Career Grand Slam. Because of his exit, his decision to play in the first five Masters 1000s of the season was questioned. Sinner was expected to miss at least one event at this level on clay to manage his schedule, but he chose to test how far he could go and ended up playing in Monte Carlo, Madrid, and Rome, winning all.
His victory in his home event made him only the second man, after Novak Djokovic, to complete the Career Golden Masters. As he also completed the Sunshine Double, he became the first man in history to win the first five Masters 1000s of the season.
Now that the French Open is done and dusted (Alexander Zverev beat Flavio Cobolli in the final), all the focus of the tennis world is shifted toward the grass swing. Sinner had already made it clear that he wouldn’t be competing in any grass-court events before Wimbledon, after withdrawing from the Halle Open to properly rest his body.
The main draw of Wimbledon is scheduled to start on June 29. Sinner has a huge task in his hands as he will be bidding to defend his title. Last year, the four-time Major champion denied Alcaraz a three-peat with a four-set win. Since Alcaraz won’t be competing due to a wrist injury, Sinner will enter the tournament as the overwhelming favorite to win.
At present, Sinner is in Monaco. Holger Rune also lives in Monaco, and the two were recently spotted training together on a hardcourt.

It’s uncertain when Rune will be returning to tennis. He injured his Achilles tendon during the semifinal match against Ugo Humbert last year and wanted to make his comeback at the Hamburg Open, but chose not to rush his comeback due to a knee issue.

Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic’s exits in Paris made life harder for Alexander Zverev
After Jannik Sinner‘s exit, Novak Djokovic also crashed out of the French Open. Joao Fonseca beat him in five sets in the third round, and this made Alexander Zverev the heavy favorite to win the title.

Although Zverev denied having to deal with extra pressure due to the exits of Sinner and Djokovic while competing, he admitted during his interview with Esquire after the win that nerves really got the better of him.
But with this opportunity came a pressure I had never experienced before. Those ten days were an absolute mental marathon. I just knew: Now it has to happen, now it has to happen. Looking back, I’m proud of how I kept my composure. Only in the final did the nerves finally get the better of me.
It was Sascha’s first victory in a Major tournament after three defeats in the finals (2020 US Open, 2024 French Open, and the 2025 Australian Open). But at Wimbledon, the 29-year-old has never made the quarterfinals and, in fact, he has never clinched a grass-court title.
Zverev is competing at the Halle Open, having withdrawn from the Stuttgart Open, where he finished as the runner-up last year. Taylor Fritz defeated him. Djokovic, the seven-time Wimbledon champion, also won’t be playing in any warm-up events on grass. He last won the grass-court Major in 2022.
