Jannik Sinner likes to focus on his present as well as his future. And this is why he has already thought about what he would do once he hangs up his tennis racket.

Sinner is in New York, preparing for the US Open, which he clinched last year by defeating home favorite Taylor Fritz. The Italian ace is also bidding to triple his Grand Slam tally this season as he clinched the Australian Open by breezing past Alexander Zverev, and the Wimbledon trophy after a tough four sets against his arch-rival Carlos Alcaraz.

In the first round, the four-time Grand Slam champion will lock horns with Vit Kopriva. Ahead of his campaign opener, Sinner talked about his plans for the future during an interview with SuperTennis. Well, Sinner loves cars, and he wants to be a professional racer.

I’m someone who always looks to the future, who invests in things for the future, in my work, in my private life, or in many other things, so I like to look to the future. A while ago, I was talking with my team about what I could do once my career is over. I see myself maybe driving races, maybe in GT3 or that kind of thing. It would definitely be a dream for me to do some races like that, but it’s still a long way off, hopefully.

But at present, Sinner will be putting all his focus on the US Open, and en route to the title, he could meet Alcaraz in the championship clash. If this happens, then it will be their third back-to-back matches in Grand Slam finals, as the four-time Grand Slam champion was pitted against Alcaraz in the finals of the French Open (Sinner lost) and Wimbledon (Sinner won).

Alexander Zverev on his potential clashes with Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open

Alexander Zverev will continue his search for his career’s first Grand Slam title at the US Open. He is a three-time Grand Slam runner-up, and in the last two finals, he locked horns with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

It was Zverev whom Alcaraz overcame in five sets in last year’s French Open final. Sinner then beat him in the Australian Open final this season. To clinch his first Major, he could meet both: Sinner in the semifinals and Alcaraz in the final.

I would be more than happy to play Jannik in the semis and Carlos in the finals here, you know. I would be very, very happy to do that. If I achieve my dream, if I achieve the goal that I set for myself in lifting the trophy above my head, then I know that I really deserve it, because I went through the most difficult path that there can be at the moment. So that’s totally fine.

Alexander Zverev said in his pre-tournament press conference

Alcaraz and Zverev are tied at 6-6 in their head-to-head matchups. Sinner trails 3-4 in his head-to-head clashes with Sascha.

In the first round of the US Open, the third seed will be squaring off against Alejandro Tabilo. But Alcaraz has a tough challenge in his first round match in the form of home favorite and one of the best servers, Reilly Opelka. The 22-year-old was the champion in New York in 2022, but last year, his run ended in the second round. Zverev was defeated in the quarterfinals of last year’s US Open.

The 29-year-old has so far clinched only one title- the Munich Open by beating Ben Shelton. Alcaraz has so far played eight finals and taken home six trophies.
