Jannik Sinner is into the final of the ATP Finals for the third consecutive time. The defending champion is on a 30-match winning streak on indoor hardcourts, with his last defeat coming at the hands of Novak Djokovic in the 2023 ATP Finals.

Sinner is also on a 14-match winning streak thanks to his wins at the Vienna Open and Paris Masters. In the semifinals of the season-ending event, the 24-year-old knocked out Alex de Minaur in straight sets, and at the press conference afterward, claimed everything happens for a reason when asked about his performances.

All things happen for a reason. In Paris, I lost it just as I lost it, but maybe that’s why I won Wimbledon. In Shanghai, it went that way, and maybe that’s why I have this winning streak.

At Roland Garros, his arch-rival Carlos Alcaraz snatched the win after saving three championship points. Sinner avenged the defeat by beating him in the Wimbledon final, denying him his third consecutive title at SW19.

Sinner was the ATP Finals runner-up in 2023, while last year, he defeated Taylor Fritz in the final. En route to the summit clash, the World No.1 beat Felix Auger-Aliassime, Alexander Zverev, Ben Shelton, and de Minaur. He is yet to suffer a set defeat.

But his next match is going to be nothing but tough, for he has set up a showdown clash with his Alcaraz, who knocked out Auger-Aliassime in the last four in straight sets. Sinner will be meeting the Spaniard for the sixth time this season, following the Italian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, Cincinnati Masters, and the US Open.

The four-time Grand Slam champion has won just at Wimbledon in their last eight meetings. Even if Sinner secures the win, the World No.1 will be ending the season as a No.2 player as Alcaraz, on the back of eight wins from 10 finals, has already grabbed the year-end No.1 title. In their overall head-to-head clash, Alcaraz holds a 10-5 lead.

Jannik Sinner on his match against Alex de Minaur

Jannik Sinner secured his 13th consecutive win over Alex de Minaur in the same number of matches. De Minaur was chasing his first title in the event in his second appearance in the ATP Finals.

The Aussie saved himself from the brink of elimination when he was up against Lorenzo Musetti. This was his fourth defeat to Sinner this year, following their meetings at the Australian Open, China Open, and the Vienna Open.

It was a very difficult match, especially at the beginning, because he was very precise. I was more aggressive in the second set and raised my level. Ending the year like this is very good for me; tomorrow I will try to enjoy and finish the week well, but everything is very positive for me. I hope to work hard to be ready for the next season and achieve an even stronger serve.

Jannik Sinner said at the press conference

De Minaur’s season ended with one title. After losing the Rotterdam Open final to Carlos Alcaraz, he denied Alejandro Davidovich Fokina his career’s first title at the Citi Open.

The South Tyrol native will take home a record $5,071,000 in prize money if he beats Carlos Alcaraz, as he did not lose a match in the round-robin stage. Sinner will be ending his season with five or six titles. The five titles that he clinched were at the Australian Open, Wimbledon, Japan Open, Vienna Open, and the Paris Masters.

He won’t be in action when the Davis Cup Finals starts on November 18, as he has pulled out of the team event to get an extra week off and start his pre-season early.
