In a rather unfortunate turn of events, the in-form Jannik Sinner faces a major setback as he withdraws from the Madrid Open ahead of his quarter-final match. The season of injuries in the year continues, and Sinner finds himself pulled out of a tournament due to the injury. 

The youngster was the face of tennis this year. After winning the Australian Open and a few more tournaments after that, he was on a major winning streak this season. Carrying the same momentum forward, Sinner had dominated his way to the quarterfinals of Madrid.

Unfortunately, during this whole tournament, the Italian had been suffering from some hip issues and finally decided to pull out of the tournament. At an important stage, he had no choice but to withdraw, which gave Felix Auger-Aliassime a straight pass to the semi-finals.

Very sad to have to withdraw from my next match here in Madrid. My hip has been bothering me this week and has slowly been getting more painful. Taking the advice from the doctors, we decided it’s best to not play further and make it worse.

Fans hope that the Italian gets back on court as soon as possible. Sinner was supposed to play in the Italian Open, followed by the French Open. However, with his hip injury, he might return just in time for Rome, or he will directly play at Roland Garros.

No.1 Seed Jannik Sinner had gotten off to a great start at the Mutua Madrid Open. Having won against many players, the Italian recently beat Karen Khachanov in an epic three-setter to extend his winning streak to 28-2.

This whole season, Sinner has been unstoppable, with only 2 losses to his name. This was Sinner’s third appearance in Madrid and a rather disappointing exit from the tournament. Unfortunately, he was forced to pull out of the tournament and also gave Felix Auger-Aliassime a straight entry to the semi-finals.

The Canadian would be ecstatic about getting a pass to his first Masters semi-finals since 2022. The main favorite is out of the tournament and a huge chance for the others to grab the opportunity. Auger-Aliassime will now face the winner of Daniil Medvedev and Jiri Lehecka.
