Jannik Sinner, who was set to kick start his Paris Masters campaign on Wednesday (October 30), has decided to withdraw from the tournament. In a video, he revealed that he is suffering from a viral illness and needs more than a couple of days to recover.

Before the Paris Masters, Sinner bagged $6 million from the Six Kings Slam exhibition event held in Riyadh where he defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the final. At the Paris Masters, Sinner has become the second top player after Novak Djokovic to withdraw from the tournament. He will now be replaced by Arthur Cazaux.

I’m very disappointed to tell you that I’m not able to play here this tournament. I came very early here to prepare, then I felt sick. I’m having a virus at the moment, which is going to pass in the next two-three days, so body-wise, I’m not ready to compete. I’m very, very sorry for that but see you guys all next year and hopefully it’s going to be a great year also this year without me.

Sinner has never clinched the Paris Masters, as he won just one match in his past three appearances. He won his first match last year but pulled out of the tournament due to fatigue after finishing his match around 3 am local time.

This season, he was the top seed and was scheduled to face the winner of the match between Ben Shelton and Corentin Moutet.

Jannik Sinner is wary of talented youngsters who can challenge him

After the Big 3, the tennis world’s focus has shifted to the two talented youngsters, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. While they share a big rivalry, Sinner is wary of other players who may show up in the near future to challenge them.

There are many, many great players and new upcoming players. You never know what’s coming so you always have to work. Of course, Carlos is until now one of my rivals, but there are so many other players and you have to be prepared and mentally ready and physically ready to play.

Jannik Sinner told Eurosport

Sinner and Alcaraz are the two most successful players in men’s tennis this season. The World No.1 lifted the Australian Open and the US Open and five other ATP trophies, while Alcaraz became the French Open champion for the first time and clinched his second Wimbledon. He also emerged as a winner in two more tournaments and became a silver medalist at the Paris Olympics.
