Jannik Sinner has admitted that he wasn’t just worried about losing some of his tennis equipment after a fan tried to grab his bag at the US Open. The bizarre incident happened just after Sinner had demolished Alexander Bublik 6-1, 6-1, 6-1 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in the fourth round in New York.
Sinner needed just an hour and twenty-one minutes to beat Bublik and celebrated the win with the fans. But before leaving the court, he walked to a section of the crowd, who were calling for his attention. There, he gave away his towel and posed for a photograph. While doing that a fan reached over onto the court and looked to unzip the Italian star’s bag.
But, the fan was quickly stopped by a member of the security as his arm was swatted away before Sinner turned and walked off the court. The incident reminded fans on social media of a man who was filmed snatching a hat from a young boy at the US Open after Polish player Kamil Majchrzak. The man later apologized for his actions, while Majchrzak gave the boy another cap.

However, Sinner booked his place in the semi-finals of the US Open after beating his fellow compatriot and 10th seed Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets. The Italian star extended his winning streak to 26 matches on hard court, being the winner of the past three hard court Grand Slam tournaments.
During Sinner’s post-match press conference, he was asked about what he felt after knowing that a fan tried to open his bag. The World No.1 revealed that after being informed about the fan attempting he immediately checked his bag to see if his phone and wallet were intact:
I checked straightaway if he took something, because I don’t have only rackets there. I have my phone. I have my wallet. But I feel like the security is doing great job. Especially on court, there are lots of security. I believe especially the big tournaments, they make an amazing job to (make us) feel safe. So even new things happen like this, they make a great job. It’s all fine.
Sinner will be looking to claim his fifth Grand Slam title at the US Open after reaching four consecutive major tournament semi-finals. The 24-year-old has only won two titles this season, both coming in Grand Slam tournaments. He’s projected to face Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the US Open, and holds a 5-9 head-to-head record against the Spaniard, having lost three of their last four meetings.

Jannik Sinner produced another masterclass performance to beat Lorenzo Musetti 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 in the first all-Italian men’s major quarter-finals. The World No.1 imposed himself over Musetti as he hardly allowed his fellow compatriot to push for a long rally. Sinner won 91 percent of his first serves and was never broken.

Sinner is into back-to-back US Open semi-finals for the first time in his career. During the aforementioned press conference, he revealed that he’s happy to earn a place in the last four of another Grand Slam tournament, making it his seventh semi-final in the last eight major tournaments:
Finding myself again in the semis of a Grand Slam is a great, great achievement. I’m very, very happy about that. We try to prepare ourselves always in the best possible way to be in these positions. I love to go deep in a tournament and try to raise my level. I feel like, for the last two years, in Grand Slams, I really enjoy playing best of five.
Sinner will face Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semi-final of the US Open. The latter leads their head-to-head record 2-1, but Sinner won their most recent clash in the quarter-finals of the Cincinnati Open 6-1, 6-1. He will be looking forward to making their record even when they meet in New York.
