Jannik Sinner’s year-end No.1 ranking all but secured after US Open title win over Taylor Fritz
Jannik Sinner is likely to become only the second man outside the Big 4 since 2003 to became the year-end World No.1 after his US Open win.

World No.1 Jannik Sinner took a massive step to ending the season as the World No.1 player after winning the US Open title. He tied Carlos Alcaraz for the most Grand Slam titles this season (2) after earlier success at the Australian Open.
With his win on Sunday (September 8), Sinner is at 11180 points, ahead of second-placed Alexander Zverev by 4105 points. Zverev missed a massive chance to reduce the deficit as he lost to Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals.
Alcaraz, who won Roland Garros and Wimbledon this year, is strangely at third by 6690 points. The reason is not having a consistent season like Sinner. Apart from those two Grand Slam wins, his only other title this year came at Indian Wells.
Novak Djokovic, who was the defending US Open champion this year, saw his ATP ranking go down to No.4 as he sits at 5560 points. Considering he has to defend titles at the BNP Paribas Masters and the World Tour Finals, it is extremely unlikely for the Serb to reclaim the throne at the top of men’s tennis.
Taylor Fritz set to secure World Tour Finals qualification despite losing the US Open final to Jannik Sinner
Taylor Fritz, who became the first American since Andy Roddick in 2009 to reach a Grand Slam final, was looking to end a 21-year American Grand Slam drought. However, he followed the fate of Jessica Pegula, the American woman who lost in the final to Aryna Sabalenka yesterday (September 7).
However, Fritz has reasons to be optimistic for his season ahead. One of the reasons is that his chances of reaching Turin for the Nitto ATP World Tour Finals have become extremely likely. For now, Fritz sits at No.5 position with 3890 points. The ATP Finals qualification cut is at 5665 points this year, and he only needs 1775 points to confirm his entry.
Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, and Carlos Alcaraz have already secured qualification for this year’s season finale. Defending champion Novak Djokovic currently finds himself out of the top 8 spots for this year’s championship.
