A roller coaster finish at Glendale saw the Seattle Seahawks pull off a crucial divisional win over the Arizona Cardinals. It took a late Jason Myers kick to secure all the points.
The Cardinals mounted a comeback after scoring just 6 points in the first three quarters. Marvin Harrison Jr. fumbled a pass that led to a Kyler Murray interception.
Harrison redeemed himself after Murray threw him a dot inside the Seahawks’ red zone. The second-year receiver rose higher than DB Devon Witherspoon to snag his first touchdown of the year.
Murray then set up tailback Emari Demercado for a touchdown run, giving Chad Ryland the chance to close the points gap to just one.
In the next play, Ryland made a mistake. His kickoff landed short of the 40-yard line, and according to the new rule, the ball must touch the neutral zone to allow the PR the chance to return the ball or signal for a fair catch.
The referee penalized the Cardinals by placing the ball on the 40-yard marker. Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold connected with WR Jaxson Smith-Njigba for a 22-yard throw before setting up Zach Charbonnet for a short 4-yard run.
With 4 seconds left on the clock, Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald called a timeout. This allowed the field goal kicking team to deal the final blow.
Jason Myers measured his kick from 52 yards with the earlier miss from 53 still ringing in the back of his mind. The 34-year-old did not waver and buried the FG to secure a third win for the Seahawks.

Did Jason Meyers sniff smelling salts before scoring the game-winning field goal against the Cardinals?
While everyone was busy celebrating (barring the Cardinals fans), the Amazon Prime network broadcast an interesting sequence on TV. In the clip, Meyers could be seen holding a small pouch containing smelling salts while he made his way onto the field.

He quickly took a couple of sniffs to recharge every cell of his body before smashing the game-winning field goal from 50+ yards. Myers completed 3 of 4 field goals.

The question arises as to why Myers carried a pouch of smelling salts, considering the NFL banned their use before the start of the 2025 campaign.
The league restricted teams from providing smelling salts to the players, but the players are free to carry their own pouches. So, Myers’ actions were within the NFL rules.
Sam Darnold’s incredible start to his Seahawks career continues
One man who has been at the center of the Seahawks is Sam Darnold. Excluding the opening day defeat to the San Francisco 49ers, Darnold has thrown 200+ yards in each of the last three games (the best was 295 yards against the Pittsburgh Steelers in week 2).
On Thursday, the 28-year-old threw 18 completions from 26 attempts for 242 yards (69.2% completion) and one passing touchdown. This took Darnold’s season tally to 905 yards on 70 completions for 5 touchdowns and 2 picks.
The Seahawks signed Darnold as Geno Smith’s successor in the offseason. The former third overall pick penned a three-year, $100.5 million contract.
Darnold revived his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings last year. He led the Vikings to a 14-3 record, completing a career-high 361 passes (66.2% completion) for 4319 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
