- Jaylen Brown criticized Stephen A. Smith for his media tactics, labeling him a "clown" and part of clickbait culture.
- Brown defended his streaming as a way to combat misleading narratives in sports media.
- He emphasized the importance of hearing directly from players rather than relying on second-hand information from analysts.
For a while, it seemed as if Jaylen Brown and Stephen A. Smith were not going to go at each other’s throats, especially when the two were doing nothing else but throwing barbs.
It started when the 29-year-old first suggested that this past season was his ‘favorite year.’ At the time, the ESPN analyst felt as if Brown was being disrespectful towards his teammates.
Smith pointed out how exiting in the first round does not equate to being anyone’s ‘favorite,’ especially when the team has proven they could go the distance.
Brown barked back, reiterating his stance. He pointed out how Jayson Tatum‘s return from injury, along with how, as a player, he progressed, and the team beating all preseason predictions made it a successful year.
But the New York native was not convinced and started undermining Jaylen Brown, even citing Tatum’s First Take appearance as a win for him and his network.
He is the face of clickbait media. Maybe with his retirement, we can spark a movement to get the rest of these people out of here. Also have some sort of integrity to hold themselves accountable for the nonsense takes they put out with no basis, no information. Just for the sake of pushing a weak narrative.

The 2024 Finals MVP pointed out how he, as a player, is obligated to speak to the media. If he does not, then he can be fined. This was the California Golden Bear clapping back at Stephen A. Smith’s suggestion that he should stop talking on social media.
Jaylen Brown labels Stephen A. Smith and clickbait media ‘clowns’
After labeling Stephen A. Smith and others similar to him as the beacon of clickbait media, Jaylen Brown went on to flame them for claiming it is their job to talk about the game.

It ain’t your job to be a clown… This delusion that y’all got, y’all making it seem that I’m playing a game, and I’m pulling the ladder down. Y’all ain’t doing nothing but helping out yourselves. I’m tired of that… That’s why people are calling it out.
Brown said
It seems he is going after everything that Smith and similar people in the current media space do. Brown believes that all they do is intentionally work on topics to draw attention, which is exactly what clickbait is.

Even though many fans have called out such methods before, neither of these analysts has stopped treading that line. The five-time All-Star believes that if Stephen A. Smith and his colleagues believe they are helping sports grow, they are just doing it for their own careers.
Jaylen Brown streams to fight against ‘clickbait’ media
After tearing into Stephen A. Smith and other clickbait media, Jaylen Brown then went on to talk about why he got into streaming.
I never wanted to be a streamer. I started streaming because I felt like I had to. It was the only thing that could control or help with fighting against the clickbait, gorilla-based media, and narratives that are out there. It would be more wise it will be me instead of hearing 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th fiddle.
Brown said
The former third-overall pick pointed out that instead of listening to news from people who are not the source, it is better for them to hear from him.

As a source, he will have first-hand information, rather than when the likes of Smith, who get their information after going through several hands. It seems he is not only taking shots at the 58-year-old, but he is also attacking legacy media. There is a good chance First Take will open with this.
