Jazz Chisholm Jr. has kept his expectations high for the 2026 season. While speaking with the reporters from the New York Yankees Spring Training camp, the 2-time All-Star expressed his aim of becoming the 2nd member of the 50-50 (home runs and stolen bases) club in MLB.

The infielder did have an impressive season last time out. In his first full season in the Bronx, Chisholm Jr. batted with a .242 batting average and joined the 30-30 club. He slammed 31 home runs and recorded 80 RBIs in 130 games.

In the postseason, his form did dip a bit. He managed just 4 hits in 7 games with a .182 batting average and hit just 1 home run. The offensive slump of the Yankees was one of the reasons for their American League Division Series (ALDS) exit at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Yankees, who have not won the World Series since 2009, will try to challenge for the title once again. As they prepare for the upcoming season, Chisholm Jr. set some high goals for himself. He believes he can become the next member of the ultra-exclusive 50-50 club.

Real life. Let’s just be realistic. I got all the tools for it. I have the speed, the power, the plate discipline, the eye at the plate, defense. I got everything to accumulate a 10-WAR season.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. said as per The Athletic

As per stats from FanGraphs, the 28-year-old has never recorded a WAR (Wins Above Replacement) of over 4.4. The most home runs he has hit in a season is 31, which he did last year. As for stolen bases, his best came in 2024 when he stole 40 bases during his time with the Yankees and the Miami Marlins.

Despite this, he believes he has what it takes to become the next member of the 50-50 club. When a reporter reminded that the 50-50 has only been done once, he would simply shrug.

You’re looking at the second one.

As of now, Shohei Ohtani is the only member of the 50-50 club. The Japanese international founded this club in his first season with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2024.

In a game against the Marlins, Ohtani went 6-for-6 with 3 home runs and 2 stolen bases. In that game, he became the first player to record 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a single campaign. The Dodgers’ two-way star ended the year with 54 home runs and 59 stolen bases, one shy of creating the 50-60 club.

Fans on social media did not take his words too seriously. Many of them made jokes and trolled him for this. One user wrote, “the most delusional player in the league,” while taking a swipe at the Yankees star.

Check out that and some other reactions from X below:

Last year, the former Marlins star played just 130 games. He also had a 39-game stretch where he just attempted two stolen bases as he was nursing a leg injury. A fully-fit Chisholm Jr. could produce some big numbers in the upcoming campaign.

Chisholm Jr. will become a free agent after the 2026 season if he does not sign a contract extension with the Yankees. According to Chris Kirschner of The Athletic, the player and the team have not started talks regarding it yet. However, he expressed his desire to stay as a Yankee in the Bronx.

I think anybody would want to be here for the rest of their career. I haven’t heard anything yet. I left that all in my team’s hands. I’m just playing baseball.
