Red Bull began the season as the class of the field and claimed three 1-2 finishes in the first four races. However, this momentum soon tapered off as rivals began catching up to the reigning champions. Despite fears of conceding its place in the constructor’s standings, Max Verstappen has been ringing the neck out of the RB20 to limit the damage caused in the championship. Witnessing this, Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds has claimed the Dutchman’s exceptional talent to be their saving grace.

Max Verstappen has won 44 races out of the last 55 races. The reigning champion has been dominating the field in F1 and looked set to extend his lead going into the last few rounds before the summer break. However, the Milton Keynes-based squad has seemingly hit a development ceiling, allowing its rivals to close up to them. This resulted in the team losing its early season momentum and letting five wins slip away from its grip.

Despite Red Bull’s slump in performance, the 26-year-old has been salvaging podium finishes for the Austrian outfit. Observing his ability, Jeff Dodds asserted that Verstappen is the saving grace for Red Bull. He then glanced over that while he has lost only five victories, all of them were won by individual drivers demonstrating the Dutchman’s exceptional talent.

Exceptional Max[Verstappen] is saving struggling Red Bull. Saying that we're 12 races into the F1 season, Max has won 7 races. Of the five that have been won by others it's one each for five different people. So in any other sport, If somebody has won 7 races and the others has won 1 race each, that would be a no contest.

Max Verstappen looks forward to racing in Hungary

While Verstappen claws back some lost performance from the RB20, his past few races have been action-filled. The three-time world champion finished runner-up at the British GP after an exciting battle towards the final few laps, he wants the next race in Hungary to convey a different story from the past few races.

Hungaroring is often known as a circuit with similar characteristics to Monaco. Moreover, with its technical middle sector, the Red Bull driver reckons the track to be an interesting one as climatic conditions play a vital role in how the race ensues, and he looks forward to racing around the 4.3-kilometer track.

Hungary is an interesting track and we are looking forward to racing there this week. The circuit is very narrow and twisty and has a very technical second sector; it will also be quite a bit warmer this week too. Silverstone was a tricky race for us: although we made all the right calls, we still have a lot to work and improve on going into the second half of the season.

Despite Red Bull’s rivals wanting to pounce at the Austrian squad during their vulnerable phase, Red Bull is anticipated to bring upgrades for the race in Hungary. Thus, the race in Hungary could be up for grabs for anyone as the top teams battle for victory amidst rising stakes.
