WWE delivered on its advertisement of Jelly Roll on this week’s SmackDown with a bang. On the July 11th segment of the show, the singer-rapper’s rendition of “Liar” was soon cut off by a returning Logan Paul. ‘The Maverick’, claiming to be a full-time wrestler, affirmed that clout chasers like Roll disgusted him. Paul referred to the musician as an outsider leeching off his success.

That remark drew the ire of Randy Orton, who went berserk at the IMPAULSIVE host for disrespecting Roll in his hometown of Nashville. Just as Orton was trash-talking the Westlake-born influencer, Drew McIntyre clocked the 14-time world champion with a Claymore kick from behind. After the Scot was done unloading on Orton, Paul emulated McIntyre’s actions and attacked ‘The Viper’.

Roll had been standing there for a long time, but couldn’t muster up the courage to get physical until he did. The 40-year-old musician got hold of Paul’s back of the head and slammed him down to the mat. Paul had to retreat, but he was willing to fight, albeit the security personnel precluded it. Upon reaching the entrance stage, the former US Champion destroyed Roll’s music set.

The singer-actor was verbally jousting with the 30-year-old boxer-turned-wrestler, but from afar. That entire segment was a prelude to what seems like a tag team showdown in the works for SummerSlam. Amid reports of Jelly Roll’s in-ring debut, it was claimed that he would align with a top babyface, who is none other than ‘The Apex Predator’.

Jelly Roll to be in Randy Orton’s corner at Saturday Night’s Main Event

After the aforementioned segment came to a close, Randy Orton went to Jelly Roll in a backstage setting to thank him for having his back when Logan Paul was raining down on him. The multi-platinum recording artist, in turn, appreciated the WWE legend for doing the same to begin with.

Roll then proposed to be in Orton’s corner tonight at Saturday Night’s Main Event for his match against Drew McIntyre. The singer-actor said he doesn’t trust ‘The Maverick’ after what transpired on SmackDown. Orton said if that’s what Roll wants to do and be by his side in Atlanta, he’d be honored.

The match between Orton/McIntyre was made official last Friday. It was back then when ‘The Scottish Warrior’ made his WWE return after over a month’s layoff. McIntyre made fun of Orton’s long-standing ties with Cody Rhodes, saying that the latter had been buttering him up for months. The Scot insinuated that Rhodes used Orton’s sympathy for him to his advantage by not hesitating to drive The Viper’s shoulder first into an exposed turnbuckle at Night of Champions.

Meanwhile, while Orton had the opportunity to punt kick his former protégé, the 45-year-old couldn’t do it. ‘The Chosen One’ was mocking Orton’s psychological incompetence against his longtime friend, which cost him a crack at the world title. ‘The Legend Killer’ eventually dropped the outspoken Scotsman with an RKO before giving Rhodes a death stare.

Why are the fans upset with Randy Orton’s likely SummerSlam direction?

Based on what the fans witnessed on SmackDown, one could draw that WWE is planning to pair Jelly Roll with Randy Orton against Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul. This will surely end up on the two-night SummerSlam card. However, the internet fans don’t seem pleased at all.

Numerous arguments are being made regarding the rationale of this lopsided contest. Roll’s in-ring debut news had already piqued the netizens, as they believe that the rapper shouldn’t be prioritized over other full-time wrestlers on the roster.

Also, with Paul in the mix now, that sentiment has gone up a notch. Last but quite possibly the biggest anger point of the fans has to do with the fact that top stars like Orton and McIntyre have to be involved in such a way to accentuate the in-ring debut of someone who’s truly an outsider—Jelly Roll. Time will tell how it actually pans out.
