Jemele Hill, who went overboard in criticizing Caitlin Clark, finally credits her for ending Fever’s playoff drought
Jemele Hill in the past had ignited controversy when she spoke to the LA Times about rookie sensation Caitlin Clark.
Caitlin Clark and Jemele Hill
It has really been a breakout rookie season for Indiana Fever’s sensation Caitlin Clark. This is evident from her scintillating performances, especially since returning from the Olympic break. Before stepping into the league, Clark was touted as one to break barriers. However, she has done more than that since making her WNBA debut.
Nevertheless, Clark has had her fair share of critics. This is especially because of professionally competing against fellow rookie Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese. The Fever rookie has been able to sway one more critic towards her corner. It is none other than ex-ESPN host Jemele Hill, who surprisingly congratulated Clark on her recent Rookie of the Month award.
HUGE accomplishment. This team started 1-8 and while I did think CC/her team would get better, I must admit I thought they might be doomed by such a poor start, re: the playoffs. With the way they’re playing, I wouldn’t want to see this team in the playoffs.Jemele Hill via X
Jemele Hill, in the past, had ignited controversy when she spoke to the LA Times about Caitlin Clark. Hill claimed Clark’s popularity is a result of race and sexuality. This caused a loud uproar among fans of CC as well as among the basketball community. Soon, her attempt to walk back those comments didn’t change the perception of fans about her.
So far, Clark has only focused on her game and hasn’t let the naysayers distract her. There are others who still target Clark with criticisms. WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes lost a gig due to her perceived lack of professionalism. She has also leveled much criticism against CC. It goes to show not all the detractors are convinced about the Indiana Fever rookie.
Caitlin Clark named as WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month
Caitlin Clark again showed she deserves to be the unanimous WNBA ROTY with her recent honor of being named the WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month for August. She has been a girl on fire as her hard work on the court helped the Indians Fever clinch a spot in the postseason. Incredibly, it is their first appearance in eight years.
During the month of August, she averaged 24.0 points, 8.5 assists, and 5.2 rebounds per game while leading the Fever to a 5-1 record. They also secured wins over Connecticut Sun, Seattle Storm, Phoenix Mercury, and the Chicago Sky.
Her performance has been carried into September as she helped the Fever take down the abysmal Las Vegas Aces, 93-86. Caitlin Clark ended the game with a triple-double of 24 points and ten assists and rebounds. As it stands, it is entirely possible that she walks away with the Rookie of the Year title.
