James Jones claimed the longer Jerry Jones delays CeeDee Lamb's contract the more he risks the wide receiver picking up a major injury.

The Dallas Cowboys are preparing for their second preseason game without CeeDee Lamb, who remains without a new contract, which James Jones believes is a massive risk for the Cowboys. In his view, if the Cowboys keep delaying Lamb’s extension, then he risks sustaining an injury.

Lamb is entering the final year of his rookie contract and will earn $17.99 million in 2024. Last year he recorded a career-high 135 catches for 1749 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. He aims to earn equivalent to his production.

Even though owner Jerry Jones spoke about prioritizing the wideout’s contract, he remains without one. FOX Sports analyst and Super Bowl-winning receiver James Jones doesn’t see any benefit in the Cowboys’ tactics of delaying an extension.

During the recent episode of Speak, Jones argued it only creates more confusion for Lamb, even though everyone knows that he is the #1 receiver in Dallas. He feared that the Cowboys might see an adverse effect of it.

This is how players get hurt because you're playing with my money.
James Jones said.

He pointed out similar circumstances that all pro running back Ezekiel Elliott faced during his first tenure with the Cowboys. Elliott eventually signed a mammoth six-year $90 million deal, but his output dropped, and the Cowboys subsequently let him join the Patriots for one year.

While the Cowboys may not let Lamb leave for free, they risk the possibility of him getting hurt because he hasn’t been training with the team.

You want me to come into training camp 2 days before the season starts, run out the tunnel, & play a game, and I'm not even physically ready to play a game.
Jones said.

Lamb is holding out from training camp, but he worked out in Houston with specialist trainers to stay fit.

Jerry Jones wants CeeDee Lamb on the Cowboys roster post 2024

The Cowboys need Lamb, and Jerry Jones knows that better than anyone. He postponed his quarterback’s contract to engage in talks with the 3-time Pro Bowl receiver’s agents, but it seems to be going nowhere.

In a recent interview, the veteran owner admitted Lamb is an integral part of the Cowboys.

We obviously do this because of how bad we want to be together. I know he wants to be a Dallas Cowboy, and we want him to be a Dallas Cowboy, so I don't flare too much when we see something that might be taken the wrong way, I really don't.
Jones said per ESPN.com.

He stated after Lamb shocked social media by hinting at a possible reunion with his former college teammate. If the Cowboys want to retain Lamb’s services, they must pay him around the region of $30 to $32 million.
