The tennis community saw another upset at the US Open when Jessica Pegula eliminated Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals. Swiatek, who clinched the title at Flushing Meadows in 2022, was no match for the home favorite, losing by a scoreline of 6-2, 6-4. After the match, Pegula talked about how she has often met Swiatek deep in tournaments.

Swiatek has met Pegula 10 times on the WTA Tour, winning six of those matches. The two have locked horns for the first time in the Round of 16 in Washington DC in 2019, followed by their meeting in the 2022 Miami Open.

Then after two quarterfinals at the 2022 Roland Garros and the 2022 US Open, they played in the semifinals of the 2022 San Diego and 2023 Canadian Open. The 2023 Doha Open was one of the two finals they played, with the second being the 2023 WTA Finals.

As Pegula once again met Swiatek in the quarterfinals of this US Open, she joked that she doesn’t want to meet the World No. 1 often.

I don't know if I want to play her that much, but deeper in tournaments, you're going to have to play somebody good, so I don't mind having to play her. I would prefer to play her on hard court and not clay. I definitely don't think I'd want to see her at the French Open very early, but yeah. It's weird, I feel like we've played quite a bit.

I had an idea in my mind of what I learned from the last time I played her at Finals, and play kind of within myself and then just see where she was at. I could tell right away she was frustrated on the serve.
