The Winnipeg Jets fans are having the time of their life. Their team has set a new NHL record by winning 14 of their first 15 games. In their recent game against the Dallas Stars, they poked fun at the opposition goaltender, Jake Oettinger, with some brutal chants.
Oettinger is currently considered by many to be one of the top goalies in the NHL. However, he had a bad day at the office on Saturday when he conceded four goals on 25 shots he faced.
Oettinger would then be replaced by Casey DeSmith in the goal. During these the Jets fan would throw chants of “US backup” at him. Check out a video from X regarding this incident below:
Jets fans are chanting "U.S. backup" at Jake Oettinger as he is down 4-0 to fellow American goalie Connor Hellebuyck ???

A reason for this is because their own goaltender Connor Hellebucyk is an American. With the Four Nations Face-Off set to take place next year both Oettinger and Hellebucyk will likely be part of Team USA. There are chances that the Stars goalie could be a backup to Hellebucyk in this international tournament.
This is though not the first time that the Jets fans have trolled an opposition player. During their game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the fans would call out their former prospect Rutger McGroarty, who left the team for the Penguins for game time. Before this meeting between the two teams, he was demoted to the AHL leading the fans to chants of “Where is Rutger?“
Social media reactions to Jets fans trolling Jake Oettinger
Fans on social media have thrown mixed reactions to the Winnipeg Jets trolling Jake Oettinger. While some joined in on the fun and banter, some fans would hit back at the team with their recent playoff record.
Last season, the Jets faced the Colorado Avalanche in the first round of the Western Conference finals. After winning the first game 7-6, they ended up losing their next four games and suffered a first-round exit. This also led to Rick Bowness retiring from the NHL. Some fans reminded them of these while being unimpressed with their chanting toward Jake Oettinger.

This 4-1 loss of the Stars was their third loss in the last four games. After losing 6-4 and 4-2 to the Florida Panthers in back-to-back games, the team won 3-2 against the Chicago Blackhawks. This defeat leaves them with an 8-5-0 record.
As for the Jets, they cannot seem to put a foot wrong at the moment. The Canadian side is on a six-game winning run, with their only loss of the season so far coming against the Toronto Maple Leafs after they had won their opening eight games.
