Roman Reigns has been through hell in his WWE career, having competed in quite a lot of gimmick matches. However, he never stepped foot inside a Punjabi Prison match. But apparently, there were at least talks of it, as confirmed by Jinder Mahal. Speaking on Insight podcast, the Modern Day Maharaja said that he and Reigns were supposed to wrestle at Extreme Rules in 2018 inside that infamous structure.
At Money in the Bank the same year, Mahal lost to The Big Dog. Had the plans not been scrapped, the Indo-Canadian wrestler would’ve found himself within the confines of a Punjabi Prison with Roman Reigns. A year prior, Jinder beat Randy Orton to retain his WWE Championship inside the same structure. However, it took the unexpected arrival of The Great Khali to subdue The Viper.
Nonetheless, instead of facing Jinder Mahal at Extreme Rules in 2018, The Tribal Chief ended up teaming with The Undertaker to take on the duo of Drew McIntyre and Shane McMahon. The babyfaces stamped their authority and trumped their foes on the back of an impressive synergy. Back then, no one would’ve even imagined that Reigns would break unprecedented ground in the years to follow.

Then a despised babyface went on to have arguably the greatest turnaround in WWE history. Beginning in late 2020 and culminating at this year’s WrestleMania, the Samoan stalwart reigned atop the WWE Universe for 1316 days as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. Since losing it all in Philadelphia, the Anoa’i family member has been on a hiatus. Recently, Roman and family mourned the unfortunate passing of his beloved father, Sika.
Roman Reigns is expected back on WWE programming around SummerSlam
This year’s SummerSlam is almost a couple of weeks away. And while the show has a certain number of high-profile matches to woo the fans, they only have one question: does Roman Reigns return on the show?
There’s already rumors floating around that he might actually be back, considering how things have been of late. Solo Sikoa has ascended the throne of The Tribal Chief and even asked Reigns to give it a shot if he wants it back.
The rechristened Bloodline also brutalized Reigns’ Wiseman, Paul Heyman, a few weeks ago. It seems only a matter of time before the Head of the Table comes back to claim what truly is his. The man who ended Roman’s record-breaking title reign at WrestleMania XL, Cody Rhodes, is the one putting that gold on the line against Sikoa at The Biggest Party of the Summer.
