Jiri Lehecka has identified one key metric in which Carlos Alcaraz is able to neutralize the strengths of Jannik Sinner on any given day. The Czech tennis star exited Roland Garros after a demolition job by the Italian in the Round 3 of the French Open, losing 6-0, 6-1, 6-2 in a one-sided affair.

Lehecka believes that Alcaraz’s versatility can neutralize Sinner. He claims that the reasons for this is that the few points he controlled during the match was when he came to the net. Lehecka said in his Roland Garros press conference:

I mean, the only name I can think of is Carlos. That’s the player who likes these kind of conditions. He knows how to move well in these conditions. He’s playing with heavy spin and when to play drop shots. He can go to the net very often. Because basically the only points I won were when I went to the net [smiling]. That’s something Carlos can do very well.

Alcaraz is the only player that Sinner hasn’t beaten since the start of 2024. The duo have met four times on the ATP tour in the last 18 months, and the Spaniard has won all four occasions.

The most recent episode came at the Italian Open final. Alcaraz won 7-6 6-1 to snap Sinner’s 26-match unbeaten streak.

Jiri Lehecka shows humbleness despite humiliation from Jannik Sinner

Czech tennis star Jiri Lehecka was on the receiving end of a beatdown at the hands of Jannik Sinner at Roland Garros. The two-time ATP title holder struggled to get games as he managed only 3 in the overall match.

Lehecka was extremely helpless on the court. It took until the 12th game of the match for him to get on the board, which generated loud ironic cheers from the crowd. Even he got a smile on his face hearing the applause.

Lehecka’s performance improved in the third set as he was starting to get more cheap points on his serve. However, it was just a matter of time when Sinner got the break and got himself in the position to serve out the match.

This match was very similar to the one Sinner played against Casper Ruud at the Italian Open. The Norwegian player could only win a game in a straight set demolition.

The Spaniard is currently riding a 24-match winning streak in Grand Slams, not on hard courts. The last defeat he endured was at Roland Garros in 2023, losing against Novak Djokovic in four sets after carrying a muscle injury.

Since then, he has won back-to-back Wimbledon titles, defeating Djokovic in both of those finals. Moreover, he won his first Roland Garros title last year against Alexander Zverev in the final. This year at Roland Garros, Alcaraz comes as the heavy favorite. He won two Masters 1000 titles on clay this season at Monte Carlo and the Italian Open.
