Fighters in the UFC usually have to go through intense training camps and vigorous weight cuts to prepare for a bout. However, some fighters have unique and interesting training methods that are deemed unusual by fans. Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka is the trailblazer for intense outdoor workouts in extreme conditions.
Prochazka is set to take on #4 light heavyweight Khalil Rountree Jr at UFC 320 on October 4th. He recently posted photos on his social media of himself training at high altitudes and climbing mountains ahead of the fight with Rountree. However, this was not the first time the Czech fighter had been seen training in the mountains.
Prochazka’s training is a unique blend of physical intensity and mental discipline, reflecting his samurai-inspired mindset. Inside the gym, he sharpens his MMA skills with striking, grappling, and sparring sessions that focus on timing and creativity rather than brute force. The Czech star had also posted a video of himself rubbing stinging nettles on his body to build up resilience and immunity.
The Czech superstar’s intense training method has proven successful, as he has secured finishes in all of his UFC victories. Prochazka’s last win came against former light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill at UFC 311, where ‘BJP’ was able to knock out ‘Sweet Dreams’ in the 3rd round. This was his first victory after losing to Alex Pereira at UFC 303 in 2024.
He grew up in a working-class family and discovered martial arts as a teenager, inspired by martial arts films and his own experiences with street fighting. Jiri Prochazka first trained in Muay Thai and quickly showed talent, winning the Czech National Muay Thai Championship in 2011.
The Czech phenom signed with the UFC in 2020, making an immediate impact with a knockout win over Volkan Oezdemir in his debut. Since his debut, Prochazka has won five fights and earned a knockout and the performance of the night bonus in all of them.
Jiri Prochazka’s extreme training methods and unwavering discipline directly translate into his spectacular performances inside the Octagon. His commitment to meditation, visualization, and even fasting in complete darkness sharpens his focus, allowing him to remain calm in chaotic exchanges.
Fans react to Jiri Prochazka’s intense training methods
Jiri Prochazka is often referred to as the “modern samurai” of MMA, a reputation he embodies both inside and outside the cage. He has long been inspired by Bushido, the ancient Japanese code of the samurai, which emphasizes honor, discipline, courage, and self-control. Prochazka has openly credited these values for shaping his approach to training. This has also led to fans relating him to samurai video games.

When the Czech fighter steps into the Octagon, his samurai-inspired philosophy translates into fearless performances that fans can’t look away from. His wild striking, unpredictable movement, and refusal to play it safe have led to some of the UFC’s most memorable finishes. Here are some fan reactions to the Czech native’s extreme training routines:
The 32-year-old usually does not engage in trash talk or social media outbursts. However, he had some strong words for light heavyweight kingpin Magomed Ankalaev. The champion had taken a shot at Prochazka and termed him a “fraud that does not deserve any more fights.” Prochazka reminded Ankalaev of their meetings at the UFC PI and further explained that the only person who was a fraud was him.
However, the comments from Ankalaev have only pushed his ambitions for a title shot. Prochazka also revealed that he is ready to fight Ankalaev if Alex Pereira does not rematch the champion immediately. Ironically, the rematch is scheduled to take place as the main event of UFC 320. It remains to be seen if Jiri Prochazka will call out Magomed Ankalaev if he defeats Khalil Rountree Jr on October 4th.
