JK Rowling has once again ignited a firestorm of controversy. In her latest tweets, the author went off on the Olympic committee that allowed intersex boxers to compete against biological females in the Paris Olympics. Previously, the committee had cleared the disqualified athletes to compete in the Paris Olympics. Furthermore, the author, known for her outspoken views and hot takes on gender and identity did not hold back. 

She accused the Olympic committee of being “misogynist.” She further accused them of prioritizing the rights of transgender athletes over those of biological women. Moreover, in a series of tweets, Rowling expressed her outrage at the situation, claiming that the biological female boxer Angela Carini had been “snatched away” from her dreams by the committee’s decision to allow the intersex boxer Imane Khelif to compete. 

A young female boxer has just had everything she’s worked and trained for snatched away because you allowed a male to get in the ring with her. You’re a disgrace, your ‘safeguarding’ is a joke and #Paris24 will be forever tarnished by the brutal injustice done to Carini.

Previously, Khelif had forced Carini to quit after just two punches and 46 seconds. This incident outraged many including Rowling. Rowling questioned how the committed was okay with a woman getting beaten up by a “man” (referring to the intersex athlete). However, it’s important to note that Imane was born as a female with the XY chromosomes.

Additionally, Rowling claimed that Carini had been robbed of her hard-earned opportunity to succeed due to the committee’s decision. The author also shared a photo of the match, suggesting that the Imane’s victory was a symbol of the broader issue of male dominance in sports. She further bashed Imane, whom she referred to as a “he” for “smirking.”

According to her, the smirk was deeper than it looked. She described the scene as emblematic of a “new men’s rights movement,” alleging that the male athlete (referring to Imane) was protected by a “misogynist sporting establishment.” Rowling’s words were a direct attack on the decision to allow transgender athletes to compete in women’s sports. She framed the situation as a victory for those who seek to undermine women’s rights. 

JK Rowling reacts to British politician’s take on transgender athletes

Rowling’s criticism extended beyond just the Olympic committee. The author went on and aimed at British politicians who have supported transgender rights. Specifically, she singled out Lisa Nandy, a Labour politician, for her stance on transgender sex offenders.

Her stance went beyond just the inclusion of transgender athletes in the Olympics. According to her, intersex sex offenders should also not get the prison of their choosing. She made this pretty clear by calling out Nandy, who previously stood for the above thought. 

A woman who thinks trans-identified sex offenders should be in ‘the prison of their choosing’ was hardly going to balk at males in women’s sport, was she? @lisanandy told us loudly and proudly who she was pre-election. She’s one of the main reasons I couldn’t vote Labour.

The author’s comments have once again ignited a fierce debate about the complexities of gender identity, women’s rights, and fairness in sports. While her supporters argue that she is defending the rights of biological women, some might even claim the same to be transphobic.
