Joan Laporta’s announcement as FC Barcelona could bid good news for the club fans as Lionel Messi could stay
Lionel Messi’s stay at FC Barcelona has been the talk of the town since his move away from the club was blocked by Josep Bartomeu last summer. Messi stated that he felt like a prisoner in this club and a move outside was what he was promised, but ultimately denied. To pour fuel into the fire, Lionel Messi’s contract details-which was privy to only a handful of people at the club saw allegations that he was going to sue the club. Needless to say, it has been a tumultuous time at the club for the last couple of years.
FC Barcelona need a chance to put things right and make fundamental changes
Josep Maria Bartomeu’s last couple of years as President of FC Barcelona was terrible to put it mildly as the club sunk into financial debts. Players were signed for huge money without much of outgoings and each player demanded massive wages. Success deserted them in the Champions League as Roma and Liverpool pulled off massive comebacks against them while Bayern Munich defeated them 8-2. With all this going on, club talisman Lionel Messi wanted to leave the club due to negligent investment.
After this came the Barcagate scandal which saw Josep Bartomeu get temporarily arrested and later released on bail. Now, like a ray of light in the darkness, Joan Laporta has won the presidential elections and will be the new president of FC Barcelona. This news could mean that Lionel Messi could extend his stay with the club as it has been stated that Messi is in close terms with Laporta.
FC Barcelona have a chance to change things now and move towards positive goals and they should take it with both hands. Joan Laporta will be expected to steady the sinking ship at the least and what he does after that purely comes down to his talent.
