Joaquin Buckley shot to fame with a scintillating knockout of Impa Kasanganay. After an okay run at middleweight, Buckley moved down to welterweight from middleweight, where he is on a streak. Up next for Buckley is the Uzbekistani fighter, Nursulton Ruziboev, in the co-main event of UFC St. Louis. Unlike typical welterweights, Ruziboev is extremely tall, at 6’5″. However, the fighter has not competed at welterweight since 2021.
He has two finishes in two fights In the UFC, both at middleweight. Buckley also has fought at middleweight but was very small for the division. Even at welterweight, Buckley is relatively short, at 5’8″. Buckley is a native of St. Louis and has sought help from the tall St. Louisan fighters as he prepares for the fight with Ruziboev. Buckley shared his decision in a recent Instagram video as he threatened to knock out Nursulton Ruziboev.

In the video, Buckley showed 9 of his sparring partners. All of them had a height ranging from 6’1″ to 6’4″. Funnily enough, none of them were taller than Ruziboev. Nevertheless, even though the Uzbek fighter is taller by 8 inches, he has the same reach as Buckley.
As such, the only advantage Ruziboev would have in the fight would be to set up head kicks on his opponent. Similar to the way Islam Makhachev did to Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 294. However, Buckley is quick and has the speed advantage, thus making the fight a stylistic threat to the Uzbek fighter.
Joaquin Buckley speaks on the recent loss of Devin Haney
The Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney fight surprised the boxing community. Upsetting the odds, Garcia scored a majority decision victory over Haney. Garcia scored multiple knockdowns in the matchup, and many, including Garcia, felt the referee robbed him of a knockout.
In a recent Q&A session on X, Joaquin Buckley answered whether Haney or Errol Spence Jr. had a worse loss. Like Haney, who lost his undefeated record against Garcia, Spence lost it to Terence Crawford in 2023 in an undisputed welterweight title fight.

Buckley was spot on his take. After all, Garcia only showed moments of brilliance in the fight, though the moments were significant. On the other hand, Crawford outclassed and outpowered Spence, which nobody has ever done.
