Don’t be surprised NBC Fans if Drew Brees makes a comeback in the announcer’s booth. The former quarterback spent 20 years in the NFL but lasted only one in the broadcasting game.
Fans even considered the former New Orleans Saints under center to be a bust after he decided to mutually part ways with NBC, following some awful showing in postseason games back in 2022. Even so, those weren’t as bad as former Cowboy Jason Witten’s tenure.
Longtime announcer Joe Buck believes that Brees deserves another chance. His rookie year went as most rookie years go. There were moments to remember and some that perhaps he would never want to revisit again.
Buck brought in Brees’ reference on Sports Media with Richard Deitsch while talking about Tom Brady’s impending debut with FOX. He emphasized that it’s too much to ask for someone with no prior media experience to be good from the get-go.
It’s not fair. I think Drew Brees got a raw deal. If there’s anybody who was ever created in a computer to be a top analyst at a network, I think it’s Drew [Brees] and I would love to see him get another chance at that.Joe Buck said
Similar to Brady with FOX, Drew Brees signed a contract with NBC before announcing his retirement. He was projected to succeed Cris Collinsworth in the network’s Sunday Night Football booth.
NEW PODCAST: I went long with Joe Buck on many topics including how an agent works for you (or doesn't) if you are in sports broadcasting.

Why did Drew Brees leave NBC?
Given his pedigree and knowledge of football, Brees was a perfect fit for the announcer role. However, despite the experience of winning a Super Bowl, the 45-year-old failed to emulate Moxy in the booth.
Brees and NBC reportedly mutually decided to terminate the contract to which he later cited family reasons as his excuse. Well, fans who listened to him covering the games would say that it’s the bad coverage that cost his job.
His short tenure will mostly be remembered for his disastrous outing during the AFC playoff game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022. Besides fans voicing their opinions on social media, several media critics called Brees a ‘total vanilla’ and ‘not ready for the playoff stage.’

He was let go shortly after the season ended. During that period, he has spent alone time with his family. However, according to the New York Post’s Andrew Marchand, Amazon was thinking about appointing Drew Brees as one of their analysts before the 2023 season. That did not happen.
