As this would be Luka Doncic‘s first shot at the championship, Kyrie Irving will make his fourth appearance. However, this time the star will get the opportunity to play against his former team the Boston Celtics.
Kyrie Irving‘s damaged relationship with the Celtics is not unknown in the NBA world. The Celtics fans also have held intense grudges towards Irving which will certainly have an impact on the upcoming series. Aren't we all in someone's eyes? We're all villains in someone's eyes.Joe Mazzulla told the reporters
The head coach showed his great sportsmanship mentality as he praised Irving for having an amazing postseason. Mazzulla also showed respect for Irving’s achievements in his career as he called him ‘fun’ to watch. The HC also stated that guarding Irving at the highest in the finals series is the most important.
Boston fans have felt abandoned by Irving as he left the team after playing for two seasons. Since then, Irving has also not shied away from showing his true feelings towards the organization. Doncic and Irving have turned out to be one of the best backcourts in the league during this postseason. The duo has taken the Mavericks to the finals with an incredible offensive partnership throughout the three rounds of the playoffs. The Celtics will have to create strategies and make plans to slow down the pair in the tough series.
HC Mazzulla is certainly well aware of that, as he spoke highly of the duo. During the press conference ahead of the finals, Mazzulla acknowledged the coaching and the contribution of the role players of the Mavericks as he praised the scoring duo.
Well coached, well prepared. I think they're a great team. You obviously have two really good scorers but I think their role players are great at what their role is and what they're asked to do night in and night out.Joe Mazzulla said
Considering both team’s immense talent on either side of the court will make the matchup very exciting. Regardless, the Celtics were the top-seeded team in the entire league during the regular season, the Mavericks have fought battles to defeat the best teams of the West. The series will undoubtedly be a treat for NBA fans.
