Alex Pereira is currently one of the biggest superstars on the UFC roster. The Brazilian has already won championship belts in two different divisions and possesses incredible knockout power. Much of his success can be attributed to his large, lanky frame, which Joe Rogan greatly admires

Joe Rogan recently sat down with rapper Action Bronson on The Joe Rogan Experience. During the conversation, Bronson and Rogan delved into Alex Pereira‘s power and distinctive physique. Rogan enthusiastically talked about Pereira’s tribal roots and how it impacted his fighting. 

He's a legit Amazon tribesman. His people are legit Amazon warriors. That's probably how great warriors of 500 years all looked. He's just so clever too.

Pereira belongs to the indigenous Pataxo tribe from Brazil and doesn’t hesitate to showcase his tribal roots. During his official weigh-ins, the fighter paints his face and wears a headdress in order to honor his ancestors. Pereira’s nickname ‘Poatan’ translates to stone hands in Tupi, the ethnic language of his tribe. It makes sense, given Pereira’s devastating left hook.

Pereira’s resolve to fight whenever the UFC calls for him to do so demonstrates his warrior character. The fighter recently filled in for Conor McGregor at UFC 303 for short notice title defense. All these things make him a fan favorite, and Joe Rogan definitely believed in ‘Poatan’ from the beginning.

Joe Rogan has always adored Alex Pereira. When Pereira competed in Glory Kickboxing, the Brazilian was a topic of discussion on the JRE. Pereira stormed into the UFC, winning the middleweight championship on his first try. Then, Poatan moved up and tried his luck at the light heavyweight title. Soon, he won and made a title defense. Throughout his journey, Pereira destroyed almost everyone who came before him.

Rogan had already warned fight fans about Pereira’s potential, and his predictions proved spot on. As it turns out, Alex Pereira also thinks highly of Joe Rogan. The majority of Pereira’s post-fight photos feature Rogan. Every time following the octagon interview, Pereira’s team calls Rogan to continue the custom of shooting a group selfie.

Pereira’s coach and former UFC champion, Glover Teixeira, shared a post on Instagram, compiling all those pictures. Joe Rogan’s octagon interactions are legendary, from donning Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s papakha to interviewing Conor McGregor with a broken leg. His recent exchanges with Alex Pereira only add to his growing legacy. These helped cement Rogan’s status among the sport’s most memorable personalities.
