Max Holloway has made appearances on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast a handful of times. The JRE MMA Show #85 & #103 were a few such ones. But none as iconic as his latest sitdown with the veteran podcaster Joe Rogan. Because now he does it as the 155-pound ‘BMF’. The duo touched on a plethora of topics – the title win at UFC 300, Alex Pereira, Justin Gaethje, and even boxing. Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney in particular.

The DAZN Exclusive WBC super-lightweight headliner on Apr. 20 saw Ryan Garcia dominate Haney with 3 knockdowns. Alongside, he outpointed the champ via decision (115-109, 114-110 and 112-112). Defeated for the first time, Devin Haney’s stats now stand at 31-1, 15 KOs. Garcia, meanwhile, is 2-0 since his Round 7 TKO loss to Gervonta Davis. Here’s what Joe Rogan says on the switch-up since facing ‘Tank’:

I would love to see Ryan Garcia, the 'one' that we saw fully hydrated against Devin Haney…[that] against Gervonta Davis…He's going to be a problem. [His] Speed is bananas...you see him shadow box like throw one of the fastest left hooks I've ever seen...

Davis, aka Abdul Wahid, faced Garcia with the latter dropping to WBA super featherweight weight limits (136). With super-lightweight Haney, ‘King Ry’ came 3.2 lbs over the limit (143 lbs) with quite a different result. Garcia later jibed that the weight miss was to bully Haney. Previously, Davis’ camp also added a contractual rehydration clause for up to 146 lbs.

Rogan thinks now, if Garcia is allowed a rehydration clause yet again, the results can be quite different in their rematch. Even Max Holloway gives him a nod that Ryan Garcia looks sufficient at his current cut and yet has some of the fastest hooks as a pro boxer. A clear underdog, nobody thought Garcia could win; but he did. Goes to show not to judge a book by its cover. ‘Blessed’ says the same about himself as well.

Max Holloway says Ilia Topuria is making a mistake in writing him off

On the latest episode of The JRE MMA Show, Joe Rogan floated the idea of a hydrated Ryan Garcia rematching Gervonta Davis. This comes after his dominance over WBC super-lightweight Devin Haney. The newly minted UFC ‘BMF’ chimed in that Garcia in his current potential is dangerous for ‘Tank.’ Alongside, they touched on Garcia’s pre-fight antics and on writing him off as erratic and unstable.

Soon after Max Holloway touched on his trajectory from a former 145-pound titleholder to the new “Baddest of All” lightweights. He mentions a time when he was similarly written off, and how that’d be a mistake yet again.

The problem is, these guys got to see me grow up... I got in the UFC when I was 20, and a lot of people think I’m Daniel Cormier’s old a**...Like 42...I’m a young guy...Even with the Volkanovski fights. The first two fights was alright, and then the third fight is what made everybody go, ‘Oh, he’s done for.’ I’m like, that was just Volk’s night, he was on...Now they’re doing MMA math... And even with Ilia, ‘I beat a guy that beat you three times.’ Brother, this is not how it works.

Holloway, 26-7 MMA, 22-7 UFC, went 0-3 against former featherweight king Alexander Volkanovski. During the discourse of the third fight, fans had snubbed his chances of ever fighting back to a win. Similarly, current champ Ilia Topuria beat Volk to grab the featherweight gold at UFC 298, in Anaheim. Now, the Spaniard is very dismissive of Holloway’s chances, having defeated the guy that beat him.

Holloway says this is a mistake on Topuria’s part. The duo has been engaging in quite the social media tirade recently; Topuria even went biblical in his resolve to beat Holloway. It remains to be seen where such resolves take him if and when they meet.
