Khalil Rountree has become one of UFC’s most exciting light heavyweights, known for his aggressive style and striking precision. At UFC 307, he went to war with former champion Alex Pereira, proving his resilience despite losing the brutal contest. Earlier this year, Rountree defeated Jamahal Hill via unanimous decision, though he later revealed the experience was mentally unpleasant.
At UFC Baku, Rountree dominated the former champion across five rounds, showcasing improved cardio, sharp counters, and relentless forward pressure. Unlike his usual respectful demeanor, Rountree showed little regard for Hill this time, keeping interactions cold before and after the fight. During his latest podcast with Joe Rogan, the fighter shared details about his beef with Hill and how it started.
For me, there was no real reason to show any respect. If we were in the same building, I wanted to just block him out. I had a press conference, I said, ‘There’s not gonna be any blood on my face. How you are interviewing me now is how you gonna interview me after the fight.’ He didn’t like that. So, when we faced off in front of Dana White he said he was going to make me bleed.

Originally scheduled earlier, Rountree’s bout with Hill was shifted to UFC Baku due to the latter suffering from an undisclosed injury. During the buildup, Hill continuously discredited Rountree’s abilities, claiming the veteran striker wasn’t on his championship level whatsoever. However, when the cage door closed, Rountree proved him wrong by outclassing him every round with power and superior strategy.

By the end, Hill was visibly exhausted and frustrated, but showed disbelief over the results, which were trolled by the fans. Getting trolled online has become common for Hill, especially after recent performances and his public reactions to criticism. Many fans disliked how he handled his loss to Alex Pereira, making excuses rather than giving full credit to the Brazilian.
Instead of reflecting, Hill engaged in constant online spats, arguing with fans and damaging his image in the process. On the contrary, Rountree was graceful after his defeat to the ‘Poatan’ and took full responsibility, aiming to bounce back. Now, the fighter is laser-focused on becoming the champion and has established a beef with the current champion.
Khalil Rountree slams the UFC light heavyweight champion
At UFC 313, Magomed Ankalaev ended Alex Pereira’s dominant reign using calculated strategy, relentless forward pressure, and intelligent game planning. Ankalaev effectively neutralized Pereira’s striking by constantly threatening takedowns, keeping the Brazilian off-balance and unable to establish his rhythm.

Throughout five rounds, the Russian was smarter than Khalil Rountree and ultimately secured a well-deserved unanimous decision victory. Following the win, Ankalaev has been talking trash to all the other top light heavyweights, including Khalil Rountree. During his interview with Joe Rogan, Rountree talked about this in detail and was extremely candid about his impression of Magomed.
Am I a fan? Absolutely not. He just talks sh**, and I hate people who talk sh**. If I didn’t say anything to you, if I’ve never f***ing mentioned your name, then why are you talking sh** to me, or about me, or disrespecting me? I had to deal with this sh** my whole life. And it’s a f***ing toxic way of f***ing being, and it’s passing along through social media, and kids are f***ing getting beat up for it.
Khalil Rountree continued.

Currently, both Rountree and Ankalaev are set to compete on the same thrilling fight card at UFC 320. The Russian will defend his light heavyweight belt in a highly anticipated rematch against Alex Pereira. Meanwhile, Rountree faces former titleholder Jiri Prochazka, aiming to earn a shot at UFC gold with an emphatic win.
