Alex Pereira quickly became a massive UFC superstar, rising through the ranks with knockout power and an aggressive fighting style. His rapid ascension to championship status drew comparisons to Conor McGregor’s legendary UFC rise, both achieving greatness in a limited time. Despite his recent title loss, Pereira remains determined and focused on reclaiming the light heavyweight crown with renewed fire.
During his early UFC days, Pereira gained fans by being a cold-blooded, emotionless fighter with a terrifying presence inside the cage. As his popularity grew, he began trying fun and engaging promotional activities, showing a lighter side of his personality publicly. However, Joe Rogan recently said on JRE that Pereira should return to his old and intimidating self again.
I don't mind a silent killer. I don't wanna see him promoting. That dude promotes when he puts people on the orbit. Let him shoot a bow and arrow at a soccer ball. You guys can do enough with promotions with his highlight reel. But a guy like Conor, if he starts talking s**t the numbers will come. Conor was the best at it.Joe Rogan via JRE Podcast Episode #2339
During his prime years, McGregor masterfully used trash-talking as a strategic weapon. A
psychological warfare to captivate global audiences instantly. His relentless verbal jabs and bold predictions during press events created massive hype, building anticipation for every fight he participated in. Against Jose Aldo, McGregor’s nonstop taunts and mind games psychologically drained the champion long before they even entered the octagon.
That mental exhaustion led Aldo to fight emotionally, charge forward recklessly, and get brutally knocked out within just thirteen seconds. On the other hand, Pereira prefers staying silent, calmly absorbing trash talk without reacting or engaging in unnecessary pre-fight verbal exchanges. His signature devastating left hook has finished several top-level opponents, making him one of the most exciting fighters to watch.
Alex Pereira is currently focused on getting back his light heavyweight title
Alex Pereira‘s UFC light heavyweight title reign was brief yet dominating, and extremely entertaining to watch. He defended the belt three times with brutal knockouts, defeating top contenders and proving his power translated across multiple weight classes. Each title defense ended decisively, enhancing Pereira’s legacy and establishing him as one of the most feared champions in recent history.

However, at UFC 313, Pereira lost his title to Magomed Ankalaev, who consistently outworked him throughout the full five rounds. Following the loss, UFC has been actively working behind the scenes to schedule a title rematch sometime later this year. In a recent MMA Fighting interview, Pereira discussed heavyweight aspirations but emphasized his focus on reclaiming the light heavyweight belt.
Well, anywhere around the timeframe of September, October or November for me, it makes no difference, I just want to fight. My focus right now is on fighting Ankalaev, fight that one in the division, get my belt back and then we’ll see what happens after. I have nothing to say to be honest with you, if I was able to fight at heavyweight right now (I’d say something), let these guys kill each other in that weight class right now and I’ll focus on light heavyweight.Alex Pereira via MMA Fighting
Ankalaev has consistently mocked Pereira online, accusing him of avoiding the rematch and refusing to sign the fight contract. He publicly claimed Pereira is running scared, using mind games to pressure the former champion and provoke an emotional response.
Adversity is not new to Alex Pereira. Coming back from a brutal title fight defeat in the middleweight division, ‘Poatan’ went on to earn the light heavyweight title in style. Pereira’s rematch against Ankalaev is one of the most anticipated super fights in UFC.
