Alex Pereira lost his UFC light heavyweight title at UFC 313 against Magomed Ankalaev in a highly anticipated fight. Despite being the fan favorite, the Brazilian struggled to impose his game plan against the Russian. Ankalaev secured a convincing victory, though some controversies arose regarding certain moments in the fight. Amidst the narrative, the new champion is now preparing for his first title defense.

During the fight, many fans criticized Pereira for lacking his usual power and aggression in striking against Magomed Ankalaev. Joe Rogan later revealed that Pereira fought with a broken hand and suffered from norovirus, affecting his performance. In response, Ankalaev dismissed the excuses on social media, asserting his dominance and justifying his convincing victory at UFC 313.

Joe Rogan mentioned his team said that Alex fought with a broken hand and Norovirus, when fighters step in the cage nobody is 100%. I was offered a rematch with him in August and I said yes, but if he is not ready I will fight whoever is next it doesn’t matter.

Following the bout, Dana White immediately announced the possibility of a title rematch, sparking excitement among fans and fighters alike. Recently, the Russian mentioned that he has also signed the contract and will fight anybody, showing his readiness for the upcoming challenge.

Pereira also responded via social media, making fans excited for this mega rematch, which promises to be an intense showdown. It could be the last title fight for ‘Poatan’ if does not emerge victorious in the next fight. At 37 years, no one knows how much longer can he fight in his prime.

In the fight, Ankalaev made sure to use his wrestling as much as possible to keep Pereira guessing throughout the fight. While the Brazilian managed to stuff 12 of the takedown attempts, this directed his focus away from striking. It will be interesting to see how the Brazilian fighter will strategize for the rematch.
