One of the most heated topics of discussion in the NASCAR community at the moment in the playoffs and recently it was announced the format will be changed for the 2026 season. Evry driver is onboard for the change barring one, the reigning champion Joey Logano. The veteran Ford driver is still advocating for continuing with the one race season finale format.
In his latest passionate talk with the media about the season finale being just one race, Joey Logano admitted that he loves the format where everything comes down to just one event. The three times Cup champion backed his argument by highlighting the amount of pressure the format puts on the racers, teams and how much every decision before the weekend matters.
I love the one-race where it all comes down to one thing. I love the pressure that it puts on every member of the team. I love that they’ve got to come down pit road, and they cannot screw up, and I love that every decision that is made with that race car before it leaves the shop has a direct effect on whether you win the championship or not.
Joey Logano said via Cup Scene.
He also pointed out that fans get to experience the pressure and can go back home knowing who is the champion, hence Logano loves this aspect of the format. The veteran revealed how uncomfortable it is to be in the championship finale, and how it is supposed to be hard. He seems to indicate having multi-race finale will water down this pressure and challenges.
You will leave the racetrack knowing who is the champion. I like it. I personally love that. Not everyone has the same opinion, and that’s mine, but that’s mine just as a fan watching. As a competitor, it’s stressful as hell. It’s not a comfortable place to be in. No one would really ever know what that feels like unless you’re in the seat, but it’s hard. It’s supposed to be hard.

Joey Logano declares everyone in R-8 is capable of winning the championship
In a separate conversation, the Team Penske Racing driver shared his thoughts on the drivers he is facing in the R-8. He pointed out that there is no one in the top eight at the moment that he or most in the racing community sees as a surprise inclusion.

I wouldn’t say there’s any surprises in the Round of 8 here. I think they’re all capable of winning the championship this year… every one of them. There’s none that are like, ‘Wow, I can’t believe this guy made it this far. That’s crazy.
Joey Logano said.
He believes these are the best eight teams and drivers of the 2025 Cup season. The future Hall of Famer asserted that everyone in the chase is capable of winning races, winning championship and give each other till the end of the season.
You’ve got the best eight teams going for it. It’s gonna be a battle right to the end. I don’t see a clear favorite or clear like this person is gonna kill them all. It seems like it’s gonna be close all the way to the end.
Joey Logano added.
The comments from the three times Cup Series champion seems rational and on point, regarding the top eight being stacked with drivers capable of producing championship worthy run. It would be interesting to see if Joey Logano can make it into the season finale alongside Denny Hamlin, who is already in, with two more races in the season and who else join him in the finale.
