The 2024 Indy 500 was special for NASCAR as it featured 2021 Cup champion Kyle Larson, who unfortunately was able to finish at P18, because of a speeding penalty. The race saw the defending race winner of Team Penske, Josef Newgarden winning the 500-mile race in style after a last lap battle with Pato o’Ward.

Josef Newgarden has long been a NASCAR fan and many times in the past has shown interest in making his debut in the premier stock car racing series. Unfortunately, the veteran racer has never gotten the opportunity to do so. Team Penske Racing’s NASCAR campion Joey Logano recently discussed about the IndyCar star racing in NASCAR.

The two times Cup champion believes if Newgarden gets an opportunity to race in the series in one of the road course races, he reckons the racer would be competitive and would be in the fight for the win from the get go. Logano believes Newgarden has enough experience driving Sportscars in IMSA and other similar stock-car type racing series to quickly adjust with Next-Gen cars.

Where Josef has driven other sportscars that are similar to the Next Gen Cup car now. He would probably jump in on a road course and be pretty competitive right off the bat, in my opinion. An oval, probably would take a little longer to get his head wrapped around.

Joey Logano reckons Next-Gen car had made the transition to NASCAR quicker

NASCAR introduced the Next-Gen cars in 2022 which has a lot in common with the other stock-car type racing cars unlike in the past. So, Logano believes for ringers coming in for Road Course events, Next-Gen car provides a huge opportunity.

The transition is not that easy from a stock car to an IndyCar. They seem like they’re so different. Now, this day and age maybe a little bit closer than ever, especially if you’re on a road course.
Joey Logano said.

The No:22 Ford driver is right with his claims that Next-Gen car has made it easy for drivers from different disciplines to explore NASCAR more. It was the primary reason behind drivers such as Jenson Button, Kimi Raikkonen and Shan van Gisbergen has made a name for themselves in the sport.
